Coop on a Stoop is a TikTok series of short clips showing Cooper, a toddler in Costa Mesa, California, sitting on a curb at the end of his family’s cul-de-sac while his father, Chris O’Brien, watches the traffic with him. The videos are ordinary by design. What turned them into a recurring viral series is how viewers read each morning as a playful forecast for their own day, a ritual the family did not set up and does not present as predictive.
What the Coop on a Stoop videos show
Chris began taking Cooper outside to watch cars at the end of their street in Costa Mesa. He recorded short clips to send to friends, then posted them to TikTok. The Washington Post reported the story on September 5, 2025, and described the setting as a curb roughly six inches high, which became the familiar seat for the routine (The Washington Post, September 5, 2025).
The clips themselves are simple. Cooper listens to traffic, watches larger vehicles such as trash trucks, sometimes waves, and occasionally eats a snack. His time outside can run from about five minutes to half an hour, depending on his mood and breakfast. Chris summed it up in the Post’s reporting: “Instead of morning cartoons,” Chris said, “he gets morning car watching.”
The routine adapts to conditions. When sprinklers left the curb wet one morning, Chris brought a small beach chair so Cooper could still sit outside. That chair is the only piece of equipment reported in connection with the series.

How the name and the viewer rituals took shape
The name came from commenters
The family did not coin “Coop on a stoop.” According to the Post, the name came from TikTok commenters, and the family adopted the shorthand as the series grew. The Post also identified “we’ll be here” as a sign-off that viewers associated with the clips.
Viewers read the mornings as forecasts
Each clip became an occasion for audience jokes. A smooth sit might be read as a good day, a stumble or a wet curb as a rough one, and a quick recovery as a day that turns out fine. BuzzFeed described commenters treating the routine as an informal forecast (BuzzFeed, September 19, 2025). The jokes are a form of affectionate play among viewers. They are not a claim the family makes, and they do not show that Cooper’s behavior predicts anything.

The reach of that play is clear in the audience messages the Post quoted. One viewer wrote: “wait, no Coop! I’m getting on an airplane in a few hours. what does this mean?!?!?” The message treats a missed morning as a sign, which is exactly the kind of reading that viewers made again and again.
Fans began recreating the scene
Recreations of Cooper sitting on the stoop appeared from fans and from organizations, including the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Cubs, according to BuzzFeed. Chris told BuzzFeed: “It all happened so fast.” He added: “The first time someone made their own recreation of them sitting on the stoop was probably when I realized that people were more invested than I thought!”

What the family has said about attention and money
Chris and his wife, Hailey, have framed the series around family and the joy it brings. Hailey told ABC, as quoted by BuzzFeed: “It’s meant a lot to us just seeing the amount of joy and happiness he’s spreading to people.” BuzzFeed also reported that the parents planned to show Cooper the videos when he is older.
The account has a commercial side that the family has addressed directly. Chris made a TikTok account in June 2025 to promote his photography, but videos of Cooper became its main draw. The couple told the Post that they had hired a talent company to help manage advertising requests. Chris said they did not want to use Cooper “as a cash grab,” and added: “We’re not here to sell our soul to make a dollar.” The Post reported that the couple had not made money at the time of that interview, a statement about 2025 that should not be read as a current earnings figure.

Where the story stands in 2026
A September 11, 2026 Yahoo News report says Cooper has started school and that his parents posted about the milestone (Yahoo News, September 11, 2026). That is the most recent dated update available. It does not establish Cooper’s current age, how often the family posts, or whether the curbside routine continues in its earlier form. Readers should treat the 2025 routine and metrics as a record of the series at that time, not as a description of its present state.
If you want to try a similar outdoor routine
The family’s routine needed little more than a curb, a view of the street, and a small chair for wet mornings. If you are choosing a seat for a toddler to sit outside, compare practical criteria rather than brands:
- Seat height and how far the child sits above the ground.
- Stability on uneven or sloped pavement.
- Weight and folding size for carrying.
- Whether the product is labeled for outdoor use.
The Post reported only that a small beach chair was used. It did not name a model or make a recommendation, and nothing in the reporting endorses a specific product.
