- Hint 4: One group completes the phrase “____ child.”
The sixteen words
The board contained SOLE, FLOWER, FLOATER, BOUNCE, THREE, BODY, PROBLEM, POSTER, LIFT, DUNK, ONLY, SKATE, PERCH, VOLUME, LAYUP, and PIKE. Several words could fit more than one group at first glance, such as FLOATER, which is a basketball shot but also a word you might associate with something else, and SOLE, which is a fish but also a part of a shoe. Solving by the shared link rather than the first association is the main skill this puzzle tests.

How to solve similar Connections boards
Connections gives you sixteen words and asks you to sort them into four groups of four. Each group shares a link, and the link is usually a single category rather than a loose feeling. A practical approach is to look for the most specific group first. The “____ child” set is easy to test by trying each word in the blank, and the basketball shots set can be confirmed by checking whether a word names a way to score. Once two groups are confirmed, the remaining words usually resolve quickly.

Watch for overlaps. In this puzzle, a word that fits one group can also fit another, so commit only after you have checked that the group is complete and has no extra candidate.
