Today’s NYT Wordle answer for Thursday, October 8, 2026, is STREW for puzzle #1937. If you want to solve it yourself first, use the clues below before revealing the word.

Hints for today’s Wordle

  • The answer has five letters, with one vowel.
  • All five letters are different.
  • It begins with S and ends with W.

Today Wordle’s dated page gives the answer as STREW and says the daily page updates at midnight US Eastern time. That is the site’s stated update boundary, not a schedule independently confirmed here by the NYT. The answer is also listed in WordFinder’s archive for October 8, which shows PROVE for October 7. Today Wordle’s October 8 page identifies itself as an independent fan resource, not an NYT-affiliated site; WordFinder’s past-answer archive provides a second dated listing.

STREW

It is the answer listed for puzzle #1937, dated October 8, 2026, by both Today Wordle and WordFinder. The listings agree on the word; neither is the NYT-hosted game page.

How Wordle’s clues work

In standard Wordle, you have six guesses to find a hidden five-letter word. After each guess, the tiles indicate how your letters compare with the answer:

  • Green: the letter is in the correct position.
  • Yellow: the letter appears in the answer, but in a different position.
  • Gray: the letter does not appear in the answer.

When a guess contains a repeated letter, the color feedback accounts for how many times that letter occurs in the answer. A letter shown as present does not mean every repeated copy in your guess is also present.

Where to play Wordle

The NYT Games iOS App Store listing describes Wordle as the official five-letter, six-try game and says subscribers can access an archive of past games, including Wordle. The listing names The New York Times Company as developer and describes the app as free to download with in-app purchases. Regional availability and current subscription details may vary; check the App Store listing for current information.

A physical version for group play

Wordle: The Party Game is a licensed, physical adaptation from Hasbro and The New York Times Company. Its rulebook describes a host, players taking turns, six tries, reusable boards, and dry-wipe markers. It is an optional multiplayer game, not a requirement for the daily online puzzle. The rulebook states: “The markers included in this game use a dry-wipe ink.” Read the Wordle: The Party Game rulebook.
