Stranger Things led Nielsen’s first-half 2026 ranking of U.S. streaming series, narrowly ahead of Bluey. The Pitt placed third overall and second among original series. The ranking covers television-set streaming from Dec. 29, 2025, through June 28, 2026—not the full year to date.
The 10 most-watched streaming series in the first half of 2026

Nielsen’s Aug. 4, 2026 release confirms the ranking’s top ten and measurement window. The episode counts and detailed service labels are reported in TVLine’s table of Nielsen’s midyear charts; Nielsen’s release lists Netflix, Prime Video and Paramount+ for Paw Patrol.
What the ranking measures—and what it doesn’t
- Total viewing time, not individual viewers: Minutes can add up through repeat viewing, broad reach, long episodes or a large catalog. The figures do not tell you how many distinct people watched a show, and they are not a measure of quality.
- A U.S. television-set view: Nielsen’s displayed chart covers streaming viewed on television in the United States and counts people aged 2 and older. It is not a global ranking or a complete measure of viewing on every device. Nielsen notes that provider listings reflect services with program-level data in specific systems, while its viewing data include streaming across platforms. See Nielsen’s Top 10 page for its chart scope.
- Originals share space with library titles: Stranger Things, The Pitt and Bridgerton are original streaming series; titles such as Bluey, Grey’s Anatomy and The Big Bang Theory are established series with substantial catalogs. In all, three of the top ten were originals, compared with one in Nielsen’s first-half 2025 top ten.
- Episode totals shape the comparison: Bluey had 154 episodes counted, compared with 42 for Stranger Things, yet finished only 0.452 billion minutes behind it. The overall minutes are not a per-episode engagement measure.
Why Stranger Things came out on top
Stranger Things recorded 23.261 billion minutes in the six-month window, with a notable surge around the series finale. Nielsen says the show drew 8.65 billion minutes in the week of Dec. 29, 2025–Jan. 4, 2026, when its final episode was released—a weekly streaming Top 10 record. That one-week figure is part of the half-year total, not a separate comparable ranking.

The Pitt led among originals; library hits dominated the overall scale
The Pitt reached 21.118 billion minutes, third on the overall chart and second among originals. Meanwhile, five series topped 20 billion minutes in the first-half list, compared with two in the same period of 2025. Those milestones describe cumulative viewing, not how many people watched or how much each episode attracted.
A separate industry analysis offers another way to view original-series performance. In its July 15, 2026 midyear report, Luminate said The Pitt led original SVOD series by viewing time in the first half, with attention to season two also renewing interest in season one. Luminate also reported that newly tracked SVOD viewing for CBS originals Marshals and Tracker surpassed The Pitt season two in minutes during the period. This is a different category and measurement lens from Nielsen’s all-series ranking, not a replacement for it. Luminate’s midyear report includes Media Analyst Tyler Aquilina’s observation: “But the success newer broadcast network originals are having on SVOD is notable: CBS titles ‘Marshals’ and ‘Tracker’ surpassed ‘The Pitt’ Season 2 in minutes watched during the first half of 2026, despite persistent narratives about broadcast television’s decline.”

Don’t mix the half-year ranking with Nielsen’s weekly chart
Nielsen’s live chart updates weekly, but its current weekly results are not revisions to the six-month ranking above. For Sep. 14–20, 2026, the weekly chart put Neagley first with 1,776 million minutes, followed by Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story at 1,481 million and Reacher at 1,420 million. The Big Bang Theory ranked fourth at 950 million. The weekly top ten also included Lioness, Ted Lasso, Major Crimes, Bluey, SpongeBob SquarePants and Grey’s Anatomy. These are one-week totals; they should not be added to or compared as though they were the first-half figures.
Nielsen says its complete annual ranking is scheduled for year end. Until then, the first-half list is the latest cumulative ranking cited here, while the weekly chart answers a different question: what drew the most television-set streaming minutes in a specific week.
