In an Entertainment Weekly interview published through Yahoo syndication on December 18, 2024, Rachel identified her final-six idol play against Andy as the move she was proudest of from the first 24 days, explaining that she had learned she was being targeted and wanted to time the idol for maximum effect. The visible interview text also frames questions about the finalists’ strongest moves, highest and lowest moments, and which juror had the best chance to win.
What did Rachel say was her proudest early-game move?
Asked, “What is the move you were most proud of in the first 24 days?”, Rachel answered: “It’s hard to not say my idol play that took Andy out at the final six!” She linked the play to information she gathered the night before: after learning people were targeting her, she wanted to use her idol at a moment that would have the greatest effect. Her explanation emphasizes both the information-gathering and the timing, rather than treating the idol play as an isolated move.

The interview’s indexed text supplies Rachel’s response to this opening question, but does not establish the other finalists’ answers to it or provide the full responses to every question. The article’s questions also invite the four players to discuss their strongest moves, their highest and lowest moments, and which juror they thought had the best shot at winning.
Who were the final four, and what happened in the finale?
The final four were Rachel LaMont, Sam Phalen, Sue Smey and Teeny Chirichillo. In the December 18, 2024 finale, a fire-making contest between the final four selected the last member of the final three. The jury then chose the Sole Survivor, who received a $1 million prize, according to CBS’s Survivor materials.
#1 Best Overall
Post-finale coverage reported that Rachel won by a 7-1-0 jury vote over Sam and Sue. That outcome is distinct from the pre-finale interview: the interview captures the finalists’ outlook before the final vote, while the tally records the result. Sue’s age was also revealed as 59 in that post-finale coverage.
How does the interview relate to the finalists’ later reflections?
A separate post-finale set of exit interviews from Rob Has a Podcast offers retrospective context, not additional answers from the Entertainment Weekly interview. Its episode notes say Rachel revisited her idol play and eavesdropping; Sam discussed Operation Italy, a fake idol, fire-making and Final Tribal Council; Sue talked about her age deception and idol; and Teeny reflected on fire-making and relationships. These topics help place the finalists’ approaches in context, but they should not be attributed to the pre-finale interview.
