Comscore reported that Selena Gomez had a little more than 42,000 followers more than Kylie Jenner on February 23, 2023, and gained nearly one million followers the following day. Those figures describe a brief period around Gomez overtaking Jenner as Instagram’s most-followed person; they are not an annual growth comparison. Comscore’s February 2023 account analysis also compared the accounts’ most-liked posts: Gomez’s post had 19.2 million likes and Jenner’s had 12.4 million. That comparison concerns those two accounts and the analysis period, not a platform-wide ranking of celebrities or Taylor Swift’s posts.

Shohei Ohtani and Travis Kelce: reported 2023 gains
A January 2024 article attributed to Sportico figures saying that baseball player Shohei Ohtani gained 5.33 million Instagram followers in 2023 and that football player Travis Kelce gained more than three million. The figures are reported secondhand by Taylor Alert’s January 2024 article, which attributes them to Sportico; they concern athletes, not a stated celebrity-wide comparison. They do not establish that either outgained Swift, or that they are the two people meant by the title.
Why follower totals need dates and a method
A total follower count is not the same as followers gained over a year. To calculate annual growth, a ranking needs comparable starting and ending counts, a defined set of accounts, and a consistent measurement method. Without those details, accounts can be compared across mismatched dates or cohorts.

Meltwater’s Digital 2023 Global Overview says its Instagram account figures are based on data published by Instagram, rounded to the nearest 100,000, and subject to change. Those qualifications make such counts dated estimates, not exact, permanent totals. They also mean that a short-term platform snapshot should not be recast as a precise full-year gain.
