The material available from the City of Stirling confirms that Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre was the subject of a redevelopment completed by October 2024. It does not provide evidence for the Southern Hemisphere ranking or the dimensions needed to assess it. The council’s Community and Resources Committee agenda of 22 October 2024 and minutes of 26 November 2024 concern the Terry Tyzack project, but neither substantiates the superlative.
“Largest” also needs a defined measure. It could refer to length, surface area, water volume or capacity, and a fair comparison would need to be limited to a clear category such as public outdoor lap pools. Without those details and comparable measurements, the title claim should be treated as unverified rather than as a current fact.
Why Adelaide Aquatic Centre figures are easy to confuse with Terry Tyzack
They are separate facilities in different states. Terry Tyzack is associated with the City of Stirling in Western Australia; Adelaide Aquatic Centre is in North Adelaide, South Australia. The South Australian Government says its new Adelaide centre replaced the former site and opened in January 2026. Its specifications describe Adelaide only—not Terry Tyzack.

The South Australian Government’s Adelaide Aquatic Centre project page describes a $135 million project and lists indoor and outdoor pools, rehabilitation and learn-to-swim pools, a lagoon, splash areas, waterslides, sauna and steam room, outdoor barbecue and lawn areas, a café, gym and inclusive amenities.

A defensible ranking would need a dated primary source for Terry Tyzack’s measurements and comparable figures for the other pools in the stated category. At minimum, it should identify the measurement used—such as length, surface area or volume—and explain whether the comparison covers public outdoor lap pools. The available sources do not provide enough information to make that comparison.
