September 2026 brought a cluster of notable game releases, with especially busy dates on September 15, 24 and 29. The calendar ranged from new console and PC titles to a remaster and a major update; the picks below are an editorial shortlist, not a ranking or a complete release schedule.
Notable September 2026 game releases at a glance
Dates and platforms below reflect the September release calendars and roundups. “Worth a look” describes the audience fit supported by each title’s listing, not a review verdict.
| Date | Game | Platforms listed | Release type | Why it may be worth your attention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| September 3 | The Blood of Dawnwalker | Not stated | New release | An early-month highlight. Calendars disagree on whether it arrived September 2 or September 3, so no single date is reliable here. |
| September 8 | Halloween: The Game | PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S | New release | A seasonal option for readers looking for a horror-themed game. The listing’s exact title styling may vary. |
| September 9 | Valheim 1.0 update | Not stated | Update to an existing game | Worth tracking for existing players: the update was described as adding the Deep North biome. |
| September 15 | Marvel’s Wolverine | PS5 | New release | A prominent PlayStation release for readers following Marvel games or PS5 exclusives. |
| September 17 | Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave | Switch 2 | New release | A Switch 2 pick that gives the month’s schedule a major franchise entry beyond the late-month cluster. |
| September 24 | Silent Hill: Townfall | PC, PS5 | New release | A highlighted choice for readers interested in the Silent Hill series. |
| September 24 | Control Resonant | PC, Mac, PS5, Xbox platforms | New release | Another highlighted title on the same day, giving PC and console players a second notable option. |
| September 29 | The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered | PC, PS5, Xbox platforms, Switch 2 | Remaster/update | A substantial return for players interested in revisiting The Witcher 3. It is a remaster/update, not a new standalone game. |
When the release calendar got busiest
September 15: a PS5 headline
Marvel’s Wolverine was listed for PS5 on September 15. Its date and platform make it the clearest single-platform console headline in this shortlist.
September 24: two highlighted releases
Silent Hill: Townfall and Control Resonant shared September 24. Their platform lists differ: Townfall was listed for PC and PS5, while Control Resonant was listed for PC, Mac, PS5 and Xbox platforms. Readers choosing between them can use their platform and series interests as a starting point; the release calendars do not establish a quality ranking.

September 29: a return rather than a new standalone game
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered was listed for September 29 across PC, PS5, Xbox platforms and Switch 2. Because the calendar describes it as a remaster/update, it belongs in a monthly release guide but should not be confused with a wholly new game.
How to read September’s other entries
Monthly calendars combine different kinds of launches. Valheim’s September 9 entry was a version 1.0 update to an existing game, not a separate new release. The Witcher 3 entry was a remaster/update. Those distinctions matter if you are looking specifically for a brand-new game rather than a substantial change to something already available.
The Blood of Dawnwalker appeared as an early-month highlight, but published calendars conflict on its date: one lists September 3 and another September 2. The available listings do not resolve that discrepancy, so check the game’s official listing for the exact date and platform before planning around it. Halloween: The Game was listed for September 8 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; the calendar and roundup use that title styling, though it may not match every storefront listing.
Other titles appeared in the broader calendar, including Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Orbitals, Dune: Awakening and Minecraft Dungeons 2. A schedule entry alone does not show why a game is a must-play, so they are not presented here as equivalent recommendations.

What “unmissable” means in this list
There is no objective must-play ranking in a release calendar. These selections highlight a notable PS5 release, a same-day pair with overlapping but distinct platform availability, a Switch 2 franchise entry, a horror-season listing, and an update and remaster that readers could otherwise mistake for new standalone games. Use the date and platform information to narrow the calendar to the games that fit your interests.
