Sky guitarist Kevin Peek was laid to rest at a small funeral in February 2013, after dying at 66 following a period in hospice. The report described a private service attended by family and a small group of other mourners. It also traced a career in music that included Sky, session work and composition—alongside two distinct legal episodes that must not be conflated.
What happened at Kevin Peek’s funeral?
PerthNow reported on 18 February 2013 that Peek had died the previous Monday, aged 66, and was buried at a low-key service the Friday before publication. He had spent his final three weeks in a hospice. The service took place at a funeral home and was attended by family members and a small group of other mourners.
Sound engineer Julian Douglas-Smith, who said he had worked with Peek from the late 1980s to the early 1990s, recalled that Peek had not wanted a funeral. Douglas-Smith said: “There wasn’t going to be a funeral … Kevin didn’t actually want anything but they couldn’t bear the thought of letting him go without something.”
What did the report say about Peek’s illness and legal history?

PerthNow reported that skin cancer had spread to Peek’s brain. It said that, in his final moments, proceedings in a separate case involving an alleged $8 million fraud were discontinued because of his ill health. The report does not give a verdict in that later matter; the allegation should not be treated as a finding.

The earlier Tracks Studio case
The article also reported that Peek had been jailed in 1994 for fraud relating to Tracks Studio in West Perth, where Douglas-Smith had worked. It does not provide further procedural detail about that case.
What was Kevin Peek known for as a musician?
Peek was identified as a guitarist with Sky and as a session player, including work with Cliff Richard. The article also credited him with music for children’s television shows produced by Baron Entertainment, the Singapore Airlines “Singapore Girl” jingle and the West Coast Eagles theme song.

Earlier in his career, Peek and fellow Adelaide-born musicians Trevor Spencer, Alan Tarney and Terry Britten formed Quatro and tried to establish themselves in the UK. Douglas-Smith argued that Peek’s musical achievements had been overshadowed by his business dealings, saying: “It’s sad that his musical genius has been overshadowed by his dodgy business dealings.” The assessment of Peek’s musical ability is Douglas-Smith’s view, as reported by PerthNow.
