SZA’s December 9, 2024, “Clock starts now” teaser previewed new music and linked the names “Lana” and “SOS deluxe.” The clip’s striking woods scene drew attention, but the project’s status was still unclear at the time: contemporaneous reporting said Lana and the deluxe might be one release or separate projects. A later album overview lists the finished release as SOS Deluxe: Lana, dated December 20, 2024.
What did SZA announce in the woods teaser?
On December 9, 2024—the second anniversary of SOS—SZA posted a short clip captioned “Clock starts now.” Its on-screen text paired “Lana” with “SOS deluxe,” while an unreleased song played. Rolling Stone’s Mankaprr Conteh reported on the clip the following day, describing the snippet as yacht-rock-styled.

The video shows SZA emerging from a tent beside a creek, crossing to the other side, urinating, wiping, and putting the used tissue in her jacket. That conspicuous moment became the teaser’s most talked-about image, but the musical news was the preview and its connection to the anticipated SOS deluxe. Rolling Stone’s December 10, 2024 report, via Yahoo, documents the clip and the discussion around it.
Was Lana the same thing as the SOS deluxe?
The teaser suggested a connection, but it did not settle the question. At the time, Conteh noted that British Vogue had suggested Lana and the SOS deluxe could be separate projects. The clip’s paired labels pointed toward a relationship without spelling out whether there would be one release or two.

A later album overview lists SOS Deluxe: Lana as released on December 20, 2024. That later title and date make the teaser part of the album’s historical rollout; they should not be mistaken for information the teaser itself had resolved on December 9.
How SZA’s plans for Lana changed
Conteh’s report describes an evolving plan rather than a fixed track list. SZA had previously discussed a Lana deluxe with ten new songs, but that earlier plan does not establish the final album’s number of tracks.
Rank #2
In March 2024, SZA wrote on X that leaks and uncertainty about what listeners already had led her to consolidate leaks and outtakes and start Lana from scratch. Conteh quoted her saying, “Lana deserves more time and music no one’s ever heard before,” and explaining: “I decided w all the leaks and me not knowing what someone has or doesn’t have it’s too complicated so I should jus consolidate the leaks and the outtakes and drop that as to not prolong the process and then focus on my next project as a win win for everybody.” The wording is quoted as Rolling Stone reported it, rather than independently verified against the original post.
The name itself had also shifted in meaning: Conteh recalled SZA saying in Rolling Stone’s 2023 Grammy-preview cover-story interview, “I’m now going by Lana, but that might be burnt, too.” In the December 2024 teaser, “Lana” appeared in the context of new music associated with the SOS deluxe.

Why the teaser mattered to SOS
The clip arrived two years after SOS and turned its anniversary into a signal that more music was on the way. Conteh’s report placed the tease against the scale of the album’s reception: it quoted SZA saying, “I never thought in a million years that people would like it,” and recounted her joke that if people hated it, she might move to India and take a vow of silence.
