Rockstar’s May 2, 2025 announcement did give Grand Theft Auto VI a specific release date—but it also pushed the game out of its anticipated late-2025 window. The date announced then, May 26, 2026, has since been superseded: Rockstar’s current game page lists November 19, 2026.
What Rockstar announced in May 2025
Before the announcement, GTA 6 was anticipated in late 2025. On May 2, Rockstar said the game would instead launch on May 26, 2026, explaining that it needed “extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,” as reported by T3 and stated in Rockstar’s announcement.
So the headline’s “not exactly the news we all wanted” refers to the delay, not to a launch date being withheld. The phrase is editorial framing; the available sources do not establish that all fans shared one reaction.
Did GTA 6 get delayed again?
Yes. Rockstar later moved the release from May 26, 2026 to November 19, 2026. The official GTA VI page currently lists November 19, 2026, while Rockstar’s November 2025 announcement said the additional months would allow the team to finish the game with the expected level of polish.

What is GTA 6 about?
Rockstar’s official page places the game in the fictional state of Leonida, including Vice City, and names Jason and Lucia. Those details identify the setting and central characters without changing the main point of the 2025 headline: a firm date arrived alongside a delay, and Rockstar later revised that date again.
