Event coverage identified Ora’s outfit as a custom Marni look. Nude, full-body shapewear sat beneath a long arrangement of beads that ran from her neckline to her feet. The strands combined black, pink, orange, turquoise and white beads, creating a colorful focal point against the nearly bare-looking base layer. Entertainment Tonight described the outfit and its colors; Glamour reported that the garment did not attach at the sides, contributing to its exposed appearance.
Ora joked to Entertainment Tonight reporter Rachel Smith on the red carpet, “Hi guys, I’m wearing a necklace this year at the Met.” The line captured the look’s unusual construction: the beads read less like a conventional dress than an elaborate piece of jewelry worn over a body-covering foundation.
What Ora said about the beads’ age and origins
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Ora said, “And these beads are from actually second century BC.” The Independent, reporting on her remarks during Vogue’s livestream, relayed a broader dating claim: beads from the first and second centuries BC, sourced from North Africa and Europe. It also reproduced her description of one-of-a-kind antique glass beads from around the world, paired with handmade Murano glass beads dating from the 1940s through the 1970s. Those dates and places should be understood as Ora’s descriptions of the beads. The reports do not identify individual bead objects, document their ownership histories, or cite an independent authentication report. They therefore establish what Ora said about the materials, rather than independently verifying the beads’ age or provenance.
How the outfit was meant to read
Ora told Entertainment Tonight that the look was about “the beauty of the body and women’s existence and presence.” In her explanation reproduced by The Independent, she said the vertical beads were woven together to create a pattern of color and texture. The result combined a body-revealing silhouette with a dense, handcrafted surface: the beads supplied the dress-like form, while the nude shapewear provided the underlying coverage.

Why the look was described as a “naked dress”
“Naked dress” describes the visual effect, not the absence of clothing. Ora wore nude shapewear beneath the beadwork, but the base layer’s color and the garment’s open sides made the outfit appear close to bare skin. The long strands gave the look its coverage and structure while leaving much of the underlying silhouette visible.
