Rick Springfield says a whole-body MRI later showed brain damage he attributes to a 25-foot fall during a Las Vegas concert in 2000. He described the finding in a 2025 interview; the published accounts do not include medical records or an independent clinician’s assessment.

What happened in Rick Springfield’s onstage fall?

Springfield told The Los Angeles Times that he fell 25 feet during a Las Vegas performance in 2000. He said he hit his head on the stage, was struck by falling wood, and then hit the stage again. At the time, he thought he had only broken his wrist.

In a July 2025 interview on TODAY, Springfield gave more detail about the stunt: he said a gravity-fed harness setup was supposed to leave him suspended from a beam, but it was not tied off. He recalled falling onto a steel stage, then being hit on the head by the beam before his head struck the stage again. He said doctors checked him after the accident and he believed his wrist was the only injury.

What did Springfield say the scan showed?

In the March interview, Springfield said a Prenuvo whole-body MRI showed “some brain damage from the fall” and that he was “working on trying to repair that.” The Los Angeles Times reported his account from an interview with People.

In July, he said the findings included brain damage and scarring, and that they were being monitored. He also said the injury had not impacted him much. Neither published account specifies when the scan took place, where the reported damage or scarring was located, what clinical diagnosis was made, or what treatment or prognosis he received.

What is confirmed—and what remains Springfield’s account?

The public reporting establishes what Springfield said about the fall and the scan; it does not independently verify a diagnosis or establish that the scan proves the fall caused the findings. The reports do not include his medical records or an interpretation from a treating clinician. Accordingly, “brain damage” here describes Springfield’s reported account of his scan, not a separately confirmed medical conclusion.

The Los Angeles Times published its report on March 10, 2025, relaying Springfield’s earlier interview with People. AOL republished a TODAY.com report dated July 10, 2025, which added his description of the stunt and his comments about monitoring and day-to-day impact.
