Yes. Marvel Studios confirmed on July 27, 2024, that Anthony and Joe Russo will direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The confirmation followed a July 18 report that the brothers were in early talks—not a studio announcement at that point.
How the report became an official announcement
Variety reported on July 18, 2024, that the Russo brothers were in early talks to direct two upcoming Avengers films. Nine days later, Marvel Studios confirmed their return at San Diego Comic-Con. Disney’s July 27 announcement named Anthony and Joe Russo as directors of both films.
Which Avengers films are they directing?
- Avengers: Doomsday
- Avengers: Secret Wars
Disney’s announcement also said the Russo brothers’ company, AGBO, would co-produce both films with Marvel Studios, with Stephen McFeely writing the script. The brothers said their earlier Marvel films had fulfilled a lifelong dream and that they were thrilled to work again with Kevin, Lou and the Marvel team.
When are the films scheduled to come out?
Avengers: Doomsday
Disney’s current film listing gives Avengers: Doomsday a release date of December 18, 2026. That replaces the earlier May 1, 2026 date shown in D23’s March 26, 2025 coverage.
