What is Resident Evil 9 called?
Its official title is Resident Evil Requiem. Capcom’s June 9, 2025 announcement described it as “the ninth main installment in the series” and identified it as a survival horror game. Capcom’s announcement also recorded more than 170 million cumulative Resident Evil series sales as of March 31, 2025; that is an older figure than Capcom’s subsequent update.

When did Resident Evil Requiem come out, and where can you play it?
Resident Evil Requiem was released on February 27, 2026. Capcom’s release notice lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The available announcements establish those platforms, but do not provide a basis here for comparing performance between them or recommending a particular edition.
Capcom’s March 4, 2026 update said the game had surpassed five million units in worldwide sales. The same announcement put cumulative sales for the Resident Evil series above 183 million units as of December 31, 2025.

Who is the protagonist, and what is the story about?
The protagonist is Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst. Capcom’s Online Integrated Report 2025 identifies her as the daughter of a character from a previous game and places the story in Raccoon City. Grace investigates the truth behind the Raccoon City Incident.
Can you play in first person or third person?
Yes. Capcom says players can switch between first-person and third-person perspectives. Its release notice also confirms multiple difficulty settings, so players can choose from more than one difficulty option. The cited announcements do not specify comparative performance or other technical differences between the perspectives.

Has Capcom announced another Resident Evil game?
As of October 8, 2026, the cited official announcements do not announce a new numbered Resident Evil title or say that one will be revealed soon. In an October 5, 2026 PC Gamer report, Capcom executive producer Jun Takeuchi discussed numbered games and remakes as separate tracks and a possible franchise “crossover” setup. Those broad comments are not an announcement of a particular upcoming game or its timing. The lack of an announcement in the cited material is a statement about what is confirmed here, not a prediction that Capcom will not announce something later.
Is a Resident Evil Requiem story expansion coming?
Secondary reporting on remarks attributed to director Koshi Nakanishi says a story expansion is in development. No release date or plot has been established in the cited material, so those details remain unannounced.

Capcom’s press release index records that Resident Evil Requiem was named among the Japan Game Awards 2026 Award for Excellence recipients in a September 16, 2026 announcement. This is a later franchise update, not a new game announcement.
