Yang Xiao Long is a member of Team RWBY, Ruby Rose’s elder half-sister, and a fighter whose weapon and Semblance make close combat central to her style. Here are ten concise answers to the questions viewers most often have about her, with details attributed to the official RWBY: Ice Queendom profile where appropriate.
1. Who is Yang Xiao Long?
Yang is one of the four Huntresses in training on Team RWBY. VIZ’s franchise synopsis places Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang at Beacon Academy, where they must work together to protect Remnant from threats. VIZ’s July 2024 announcement also reported that the franchise had accumulated over 350 million global views across platforms and that episodes averaged more than 7 million views; those are VIZ’s figures from that date, not independently rechecked current totals.

2. What is Yang’s personality like?
The official English RWBY: Ice Queendom character profile describes Yang as cheerful, thoughtful, and friendly. It also emphasizes how protective she is of Ruby. This is a compact profile for the Ice Queendom adaptation, not a complete account of her characterization across every volume of the original series. Read Yang’s official Ice Queendom profile.
3. How is Yang related to Ruby?
Yang is Ruby’s elder half-sister. The Ice Queendom profile specifically notes her protectiveness toward her younger sister, a family bond that also gives Yang a personal connection within Team RWBY.

4. What weapon does Yang use?
Yang’s weapon is Ember Celica, a pair of gauntlets that can transform into shotguns. The Ice Queendom profile additionally describes an upgraded-power version used in its Lucid Dream context; that detail is specific to the version described there.
5. What is Yang’s Semblance?
Yang’s Semblance is called Burn. The Ice Queendom profile summarizes it as drawing strength from hits she has taken and sending that strength back twofold. That short description gives the basic idea, but does not establish every tactical limitation or mechanic in the original series.

6. Why do Yang’s hair and eyes change?
According to the Ice Queendom profile, when Yang becomes sufficiently angry and energized, her hair glows and her eyes turn red. These are signs of a heightened state, not her ordinary appearance.
7. Is Yang only a brawler?
No. The same profile connects Yang’s love of battling with thoughtfulness and friendliness toward other people. That combination makes “just a brawler” an incomplete description, though a fuller account of how she develops in particular story arcs would require evidence from those episodes.

8. How does Yang fit into Team RWBY?
Yang is one of four teammates—Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang—whom VIZ describes as Huntresses in training facing threats together. Her relationship with Ruby adds a sibling bond to that team structure. The official VIZ franchise announcement gives the broader Beacon Academy context.
9. What official book or manga can fans explore?
VIZ lists two different kinds of official companion material. The World of RWBY is a 200-page hardcover art book with character analysis and production interviews; it covers the franchise broadly rather than serving as a Yang-only biography. VIZ also lists RWBY: The Official Manga, with physical volumes 1–3 and volume 3 marked final. The catalogue evidence does not establish a Yang-centered volume.
10. What is the latest official RWBY series status?
VIZ announced on July 4, 2026, that RWBY Volume 10 had been greenlit. Its announcement does not establish a release date, so no premiere timing can be stated from that update. Read VIZ’s Volume 10 announcement.
