T3 reported that it topped Netflix’s UK chart in the week of 8 August 2024; that is a dated, territory-specific chart report, not evidence of its current ranking or availability. If you expect a nonstop comic caper, its more measured blend of humour and human drama may come as a surprise.
Which film did T3 report at No. 1?
Mike Lowe’s T3 article, updated 8 August 2024, said Joyride had topped Netflix’s UK chart. The standfirst described it as: “Joyride stars Olivia Colman and has topped Netflix’s UK chart”. This is T3’s report, not an independently verified Netflix chart result, and it describes the UK at that time—not a current ranking in the UK or elsewhere. Read T3’s article.

This is the 2022 Irish film Joyride, not the similarly titled 2023 American comedy Joy Ride.
What is Joyride about?
Olivia Colman plays Joy, and Charlie Reid plays 12-year-old Mully. After Mully’s father takes charity money raised following the death of Mully’s mother, Mully runs away and Joy becomes caught up in his flight. Their journey gives the film room for awkward encounters and human moments as well as comedy. T3’s plot and cast summary identifies the central characters and predicament.

Is it a nonstop-laughs comedy?
Not according to T3’s description: it presents Joyride as a measured comedy-drama, not an uninterrupted comic caper. The distinction matters if you are choosing a film for broad, rapid-fire laughs. Its premise has comic potential, but the story also turns on grief, family conflict and the bond that develops during the journey.
Why are reactions described as divided?
T3 reported mixed critical reception and quoted some fan reactions calling the film “refreshing.” That supports a contrast between mixed reviews and positive reactions from some viewers; it does not establish that audiences as a whole are split, or that fans generally love or dislike the film.
Rank #2
T3 also reported a Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 51% in its August 2024 article. That is a secondary-source figure from that date, not a verified current score. The article does not establish the score now or provide an independently auditable Netflix chart dataset.

Consider Joyride if you want an Irish road-trip story with comedy and emotional material, and are comfortable with a gentler pace than a broad caper. If your priority is constant jokes, T3’s description suggests the tone may not match that expectation. The chart report and reception details above cannot tell you whether the film is available in your Netflix region today; check Netflix’s current catalogue in your location.
