New York Times Connections puzzle #519 was published Monday, November 11, 2024. If you want to solve it first, start with the progressive hints below; the four category names and complete word groups follow.

Hints for Connections #519

Connections asks you to sort 16 words into four groups of four that share a theme. The categories are color-coded from yellow, described as the easiest, to purple, described as the trickiest, by the New York Times Help Center.

  1. Yellow: Sweet treats.
  2. Green: The central or essential part of something.
  3. Blue: Supportive undergarments.
  4. Purple: Words that come before the name of a flying animal.

The hints are paraphrased from Parade and TechRadar.

Answers for November 11, 2024

Here are the four categories and their words:

  • CHOCOLATE BARS: CRUNCH, DOVE, MARS, PAYDAY
  • GIST: CORE, MEAT, SUBSTANCE, THRUST
  • KINDS OF BRAS: DEMI, PUSH-UP, SPORTS, WIRELESS
  • ___ BIRD: BIG, EARLY, LADY, SUE

Why the purple group fits

The last four words form familiar names or phrases when followed by “bird”: Big Bird, early bird, ladybird, and Sue Bird. Sue Bird is a WNBA player; that reference may be less immediately familiar than the other phrases.
