The strongest match for the headline is The Crash, Netflix’s feature-length documentary about a fatal 2022 Ohio collision involving Mackenzie Shirilla, Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan. Netflix reported 11.7 million views for the film in the week of May 11, 2026, when it ranked No. 3 on the service’s English-language film list. The headline does not uniquely identify the title, however, and those figures describe a past chart week—not its position today.
What is The Crash about?
The documentary revisits a 2022 Ohio crash in which a car traveling at 100 miles per hour caused the deaths of two passengers, according to Netflix’s weekly report. The film follows the case involving Shirilla, Russo and Flanagan. Tom’s Guide says investigators suspected Shirilla may have intentionally driven off the road. That is a reported investigative suspicion; the chart reports cited here do not establish intent as fact.

How well did it perform on Netflix?
For the week of May 11, 2026, Netflix placed The Crash at No. 3 on its English-language film list and reported 11.7 million views. Those numbers apply to that weekly list and reporting period; they are not a current ranking or a lifetime total.
Why was it also called a No. 1 streaming title?
A separate chart measured a different audience and scope. The Wrap, using Samba TV’s weekly panel chart, reported that The Crash rose four places to No. 1 in May 2026. The report describes Samba TV’s panel as more than 3 million households balanced to the U.S. Census, and tracks viewing across streaming and linear television.
#1 Best Overall
That No. 1 position does not conflict with Netflix’s No. 3: Netflix reported its own global English-language film list, while The Wrap described a panel-based weekly streaming chart. Their rankings have different coverage and methodology, so they are not interchangeable measures of the same audience.

No. The Crash is a strong match for a Netflix true-crime title that charted in 2026, but the wording alone does not identify it conclusively. Other titles also received prominent chart coverage: Tom’s Guide reported that Maternal Instinct reached No. 1 after its June 12, 2026 Netflix launch; The Wrap reported 18.2 million first-week views for The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare, which topped Netflix’s most-watched TV list for the week of July 27; and The Week discussed A Toxic Love Story in a September roundup. Those are separate releases and chart snapshots, not evidence that the headline must refer to any one of them.
