The result, in Nandini Ramnath’s assessment for Scroll.in, is a thriller whose ingredients work better than its structure.
What is Like Aani Subscribe about?
Abhishek Merukar’s 2024 Marathi-language mystery thriller follows Khushi (Jui Bhagwat), a vlogger and aspiring actress who encounters a dead body while livestreaming. The victim is Rohit (Amey Wagh), whose past is revealed through flashbacks. Documentary filmmaker Deepika (Amruta Khanvilkar) joins Khushi and her friend Shruti (Rajasi Bhave) as they investigate, with the trail leading toward Rohit’s employer Ravi, Faisal and politician Dadasaheb. The setup puts a public-facing online personality at the center of a murder investigation, but the film’s interest lies as much in its characters and comic tone as in the identity of the killer.
Does the dark humor and cast make it worth watching?
Ramnath’s review finds the film’s dark humor effective and praises the performances. Wagh stands out as Rohit, a confidence trickster whose life-insurance scams eventually bring him to a fatal end. The comic edge gives the story some energy, and the cast helps make its eccentric characters watchable even when the plot slows down.
That strength does not fully offset the film’s structural drag. Ramnath argues that scenes take too long to establish and that the story is stretched across roughly 140 minutes. Viewers who enjoy a leisurely build may find room to settle into the characters; those expecting a taut, clue-driven thriller may feel the delay more keenly.

Does the murder mystery deliver a satisfying payoff?
The central weakness, in Ramnath’s view, is the solution. Rather than letting the investigation build toward a revelation that feels earned, the film relies on a character’s “mystifying decision to lay out all cards on the table.” That choice makes the explanation feel more like information being handed over than a mystery being solved.
This is a critical judgment, not a claim that every viewer will reject the ending. But it points to the tension at the heart of the film: the premise promises investigation and discovery, while the payoff does not, for this reviewer, make sufficient dramatic use of either. The dark humor and performances land more reliably than the plot’s final turn.

How long is the film, and where can you watch it?
Catalog listings give different runtimes: the Central Board of Film Certification’s 2024 list records 142 minutes; Rotten Tomatoes and Prime Video list 2 hours 20 minutes; and Google Play lists 139 minutes. These are source-specific catalog figures, not a single agreed runtime.
Rotten Tomatoes names Prime Video and Apple TV as viewing options. The cited US-facing Prime Video listing offers rental or purchase. Availability and pricing vary by territory and can change, so check the storefront where you plan to watch.
