JADE’s debut solo album, THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY!, is a deliberately unruly rush of theatrical dance-pop: disco, club beats, synth-pop, sharp turns into vulnerability, and a voice that can shift from full-throated belt to a soft confession. The disorder is part of its appeal, though the most immediately forceful stretch arrives early.
What does THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY! sound like?
Released September 12, 2025, the album is the first solo record from Jade Thirlwall, known professionally as JADE and previously as a member of Little Mix. Rather than settle into one pop lane, it moves among theatrical electropop, disco, club music, synth-pop, and quieter ballad-like passages.
JADE has described the aesthetic to Vogue as “chaotic Frankenstein pop. It’s theatrical, it’s big and noisy—and it’s me.” In an interview with Women In Pop, she put the intention more simply: “I wanted this album to sound like chaos.” The variety feels less like a genre exercise than a portrait of an artist testing how much contrast a pop song can hold.
Big contrasts, not just big production
“Fantasy” leans into disco; “Midnight Cowboy” heads toward ballroom-club energy; and “FUFN (Fuck You for Now)” is blunt, direct electropop. “IT girl” makes theatrical excess part of the performance, while “Glitch” sets a glittering keyboard-and-trap texture against JADE’s vocal. On “Plastic Box,” she moves from a full-bodied belt to a gentler delivery, a contrast noted by Rolling Stone Australia.

What gives the spectacle its substance?
The bright, busy arrangements often carry darker or more complicated subjects. “Angel of My Dreams,” JADE’s solo introduction, turns her first experience in the music business into what Rolling Stone Australia describes as a fever-dream statement. Its exhilaration and unease sit side by side, establishing a tension that runs through the album.
Other songs make the personal material more intimate. Apple Music’s album feature connects “Plastic Box” to romance, “Self Saboteur” to emotional defenses and self-blame, “Glitch” to an intrusive inner voice, “Unconditional” to caring for someone who struggles to love themselves, and “Natural at Disaster” to a difficult relationship. JADE has said that humor helps her approach painful subjects. In her Vogue interview, she linked “Glitch” to an anxiety-related eye twitch and explained that its electronic production was intentional. The result is not a solemn album hiding behind dance beats; it lets vulnerability and theatrical fun coexist.

Where does the album lose momentum?
The same abundance that makes the record distinctive can make its sequencing feel uneven. The Guardian praises the way ideas jostle in the first half, highlighting “IT girl,” “Midnight Cowboy,” and “Fantasy,” but argues that the intensity is difficult to sustain across the full album. Pitchfork likewise admires JADE’s self-invention and sonic detail while finding the run of biggest bangers front-loaded.
That is a sequencing reservation, not a case against the album’s ambition. The record keeps changing shape rather than narrowing toward a single sound, and its later material helps draw the early spectacle into a more personal frame. Listeners who want every track to hit with the same immediate force may find the back half less consistent; those drawn to its shifts in mood and texture have more to follow than a string of club peaks.

Is it worth listening to?
Yes, especially for listeners who enjoy pop that treats theatricality as a creative tool rather than a polished finish. JADE’s vocal range gives the album a center even when the production ricochets between styles, while the writing makes the spectacle feel connected to fame, love, anxiety, and self-sabotage. It is less convincing as a uniformly high-energy sequence than as an intentionally varied debut with several standout moments.
JADE’s official announcement lists collaborators including Mike Sabath, Lostboy, Cirkut, RAYE, and Pablo Bowman, and identifies “Angel of My Dreams,” “Fantasy,” “Midnight Cowboy,” “IT girl,” “FUFN,” and “Plastic Box” as released singles. Sony Music reported that “Angel of My Dreams” reached the UK singles chart top ten and passed 100 million streams; those figures are label-reported.
