Jack’s Mannequin announced The MFEO Tour on January 27, 2025, marking 20 years since the band’s debut era. In interview comments relayed by Chorus.fm from a Rolling Stone exclusive, Andrew McMahon described revisiting the songs as demanding because they are tied to the experiences behind them—not simply a set of tracks to relearn.
Why the MFEO Tour mattered to McMahon
McMahon connected Jack’s Mannequin’s music to a personal arc from youth into adulthood, and from cancer to remission. The band’s three-album catalog, in that telling, carries memories of the life that unfolded while the songs were being made. Returning to it meant revisiting those experiences as well as performing the music.
“Stepping back into that will be a workout, emotionally and physically,” McMahon said in the interview excerpt attributed to Rolling Stone and republished by Chorus.fm. The January announcement also quoted him describing Jack’s as both “a studio project and a live band that toured relentlessly.” The two ideas help explain the tour’s challenge: the songs had to be recovered as a live repertoire, while the personal history inside them remained present.
How the tour took shape
The January 27 announcement framed the tour as a 20th-anniversary return and described 24 North American headline dates, beginning June 4 in Portland, Maine, and ending November 23 in Del Mar, California. It also mentioned Japan dates, festival appearances, and a surprise show in Venice, California, on announcement day. Those details describe the initial announcement, not the final scope of the schedule.

A May 22 update described a 30-date North American tour and a more developed schedule that included festivals and international dates, including Japan and Australia. It also named five support acts, each playing select dates:
- Yoke Lore
- The Early November
- Mondo Cozmo
- hellogoodbye
- illuminati hotties
The change from 24 to 30 reflects two dated announcement snapshots with different schedule scopes: the January figure was for North American headline dates, while the May coverage described the expanded tour schedule. The dates concluded in 2025 and are now historical.

Relearning the catalog for the stage
McMahon said the band planned to learn the catalog, vary the setlists, and work on B-sides during rehearsals. That points to a return broader than a fixed anniversary set: the musicians were preparing to revisit the material across the catalog while making room for different selections from night to night.
For McMahon, the work was also emotional. When songs are closely associated with a particular period of life, bringing them back can make rehearsal a form of recollection as much as preparation. The interview excerpt’s emphasis on physical and emotional effort gives context to the band’s plan to rebuild its live repertoire rather than treat the anniversary as a simple retrospective.
