Published on 28 December 2023, Jade Jurewicz’s PerthNow article named six Western Australian venues she planned to try during 2024. The list spans Busselton, Fremantle, Claremont, Hillarys and South Perth, and covers several different kinds of outings.
What the 2024 list does—and does not—tell you
Jurewicz’s article is best read as a snapshot of places attracting attention at the end of 2023. It does not establish that she visited and reviewed all six venues: the copy is anticipatory, and the Alberta’s Kitchen and Store entry ends, “Can’t wait to try.” The descriptions below reflect the article’s framing, not independent assessments of food, service, value or quality.
Nor should the list be treated as a current set of recommendations. Venue operations, menus, prices, hours and booking arrangements can change. The official pages noted here offer some practical details, but they do not confirm every item a diner would need to plan a visit today.
The six venues and the experiences the article highlighted
Alberta’s Kitchen and Store — Busselton
The PerthNow article said Alberta’s had appeared on nearly every chef’s list in an earlier STM feature about where chefs eat. It described business partners Kirsty Marchant and Ben Ing as having both worked at Noma in Copenhagen, and characterized the menu as small, seasonal and changing. Those are the 2023 article’s claims, not a report of Jurewicz’s own meal.

#1 Best Overall
The venue’s official booking page provides its Busselton address and a reservation system. A dated event panel recommends booking and welcomes walk-ins, but that event-specific note should not be assumed to describe the venue’s ordinary policy.
Lola’s — Fremantle
Jurewicz presented Lola’s as a new pizza restaurant from the people behind Peggy’s, with pizzas and cocktails. The preview uses forward-looking language rather than firsthand tasting notes. The material available here does not establish Lola’s current operating status, address, menu, hours or booking arrangements; check directly with the business before making plans.
Rank #2
Ode to Sirens — Fremantle
The article introduced Ode to Sirens as a new 1970s-inspired listening bar and connected it to an owner whose other venues include Bread in Common, Il Lido and Gordon St Garage. Its official about page currently describes Greek-centric food and drinks, vinyl records, DJs and live performances. The page lists the venue at P&O Hotel, 25 High St, Fremantle, and states hours of seven days, noon to late; confirm details with the venue before visiting.
Bottega Deli — Claremont
The 2023 preview described Bottega Deli as an Italian deli serving pasta, panini, salads and coffee, opened by sisters Annabella and Victoria La Pegna. Current operating status, menu, address, hours and booking arrangements are not established here, so verify them directly before setting out.
Hillarys Beach Club — Hillarys
Jurewicz described a large, two-storey venue near the beach, with Italian food, pub classics, Japanese food and breakfast. The current official website distinguishes two formats: The Heart, an upstairs tavern without table service, and Bar Cicchetti downstairs, an Italian restaurant with table service. The site lists the address as 20 John Wilkie Tarn, Hillarys WA 6025, gives service hours and says the outdoor balcony and alfresco spaces are walk-in only. Check its current booking information and hours before going.
The Station — South Perth
The PerthNow article said The Station occupied the former heritage-listed South Perth Police Station and reported that the project cost $8 million. That figure is the 2023 article’s report and was not independently verified here. The venue’s official website describes the heritage setting and currently says The Station takes walk-ins only. It also advertises gift cards valid at The Station and BANGLA, and promotes BANGLA as a newer dining experience. Opening and event information can change, so check the site for current details.

How to use the list when planning a meal
The six places are not direct substitutes: the preview spans seasonal dining, pizza, a music-led bar, an Italian deli, a multi-format beachside venue and a restaurant in a heritage setting. Choose by the kind of outing and location you want, then confirm the practical details with the venue. The available sources do not establish comparable current prices or provide a basis for ranking the six by taste, value or service.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- For Alberta’s, use the official booking page for its address and reservation system; treat event-specific booking notes as applying to that event only.
- For Ode to Sirens, verify its published hours and current program of music and performances before travelling.
- For Hillarys Beach Club, check which space you intend to visit and its service arrangement; the outdoor areas are listed as walk-in only.
- For The Station, account for the official site’s walk-in-only policy and check for current opening information.
- For Lola’s and Bottega Deli, confirm that they are operating and obtain current address, menu, hours and access or booking details directly from the business.
