Blake Lively reportedly “cried with relief” after a judge dismissed Justin Baldoni’s $400 million countersuit against her and others, according to unnamed sources quoted by PEOPLE on June 9, 2025. That reaction has not been independently confirmed or stated publicly by Lively. The court’s ruling dismissed Baldoni’s claims; it did not decide Lively’s separate claims against him and Wayfarer parties.
What PEOPLE reported about Lively’s reaction
In a report published the day of the ruling, PEOPLE quoted an unnamed insider who said Lively “cried with relief” after learning that the countersuit had been dismissed. A second unnamed source told the magazine, “She’s obviously relieved. They both are,” and added, “She feels vindicated.” PEOPLE’s June 9, 2025 report does not identify either source, and these comments are not direct public statements from Lively.

Lively’s attorneys, Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, also described the outcome as a “total victory and a complete vindication” for her. That was counsel’s characterization, not the court’s wording.
What the judge dismissed—and what remained
On June 9, 2025, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman granted the motions to dismiss Baldoni’s claims against Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Sloane, Vision PR, and The New York Times Company. The opinion’s formal disposition states, “The motions to dismiss are GRANTED.” The court’s opinion and order is the source for the legal outcome.

The dismissal was not a verdict on Lively’s separate allegations. Her action against Baldoni and Wayfarer parties was still before the court, which continued addressing it in an April 2, 2026 opinion.

The June 2025 decision resolved the claims brought by Baldoni against Lively and the other named defendants in that action. It did not end the broader litigation. In June 2026, the court granted Lively attorneys’ fees and costs under California Civil Code § 47.1 while denying treble and punitive damages. An August 2026 order entered awards of $363,245.40 in attorneys’ fees and $44,206.35 in costs. Those later rulings are separate developments, not part of the June 2025 dismissal.
