Dracule Mihawk is the clearest choice for the strongest swordsman in One Piece: his official character profile identifies him as the world’s strongest swordsman. The exact order of other contenders is not settled by that title or by the official profiles available here. This ranking separates that canon-backed fact from editorial comparisons—and stops at seven rather than inventing a defensible-looking top 25 where the evidence does not support one.
How this ranking works
This list covers characters whose fighting identity substantially involves a sword. It includes fighters whose broader powers matter in battle, but distinguishes those abilities from swordsmanship. Mihawk’s official title is the strongest direct evidence of rank; placements below him are comparative judgments, not an official canon ordering.
Comparisons are especially uncertain across different eras and conditions. Oden and Rayleigh are historical or former-era figures, while other entries are considered in their more recent story roles. The official profiles establish important facts about these characters, but do not put all of them on a shared, numbered strength scale.
The strongest swordsmen supported by the available official profiles
1. Dracule Mihawk
Mihawk takes the top spot because his official profile calls him the world’s strongest swordsman and identifies his black blade as Yoru. The profile also recounts his decisive early duel with Zoro and says he later trained Zoro for two years. His listed bounty is 3.59 billion berries on the ONE PIECE.com profile accessed in 2026; that in-story figure is not the basis for the ranking—the explicit swordsman title is.

2. Shanks
Shanks is an Emperor and an obvious contender near the top of any discussion of sword-wielding fighters. His official profile lists a bounty of 4.0489 billion berries, an in-story measure of his standing, not a swordsmanship ranking. The official profiles considered here do not resolve whether Shanks is stronger than Mihawk overall, so this placement is an editorial judgment rather than a settled matchup result.
3. Roronoa Zoro
Zoro is a dedicated swordsman whose stated ambition is to become the world’s greatest swordsman. His official profile describes his three-sword style and records Mihawk’s two-year training of him. The profile lists his bounty as 1.111 billion berries, an in-story figure rather than a direct comparison of sword skill. His place here reflects his central, sustained commitment to swordsmanship, not a claim that the story has already confirmed he surpasses the figures above him.
4. Kozuki Oden
Oden is described in his official profile as a legendary samurai of Wano, admired by both Whitebeard and Roger. That stature makes him a compelling candidate among the greatest swordsmen, but the profile does not establish a precise ranking against current fighters or other historical figures. His placement is therefore a cross-era editorial comparison.
5. Silvers Rayleigh
Rayleigh’s official profile identifies him as the former first mate of the Roger Pirates and describes formidable strength persisting into old age. His standing and sword use make him a high-ranking candidate, though comparisons depend on whether the question concerns his prime or his older self. This list does not treat those two versions as interchangeable.

6. Issho (Fujitora)
Fujitora is a blind swordsman and an admiral, but his gravity powers are central to his overall combat ability. He belongs in a broad ranking of fighters who use swords; his position would be less straightforward in a ranking limited to sword technique alone. This entry weighs his complete combat profile rather than treating every victory or capability as swordsmanship.
7. Trafalgar Law
Law wields a sword, but his Op-Op Fruit is central to how he fights. His official profile lists a bounty of 3 billion berries, an in-story figure that does not measure sword skill. He qualifies under the broad inclusion rule used here—substantial sword use, not sword use as a character’s only or defining power—so his placement is a judgment about overall combat strength among sword-wielding characters.

Why this is not a canon top 25
ONE PIECE.com’s character directory and profiles provide character descriptions, titles, and selected facts; they do not publish a numbered ranking of the strongest swordsmen. Beyond Mihawk’s explicit title, they do not establish a definitive order for the contenders above, much less a complete top 25. A longer list would need additional primary-story evidence and careful decisions about who counts as a swordsman, which versions of historical characters to compare, and whether to rank sword technique or total combat strength.
Names such as Vista and Shiryu are plausible candidates for a broader list, but the official-profile evidence considered here does not establish their relative positions or justify assigning them exact ranks. Rather than present unsupported placements as fact, this article limits its ranked list to the seven characters substantiated in the available profiles.
