It is a six-episode adaptation of a landmark Argentine graphic novel, driven more by immediate survival than by a science mystery.
What is The Eternaut about?
A rare snowfall begins in Buenos Aires, and anyone it touches dies. As the city is thrown into crisis, survivors shield themselves with gas masks and layers of protective clothing. Juan Salvo emerges as a resistance leader while the group tries to understand and oppose the invisible force behind the disaster. Netflix describes the series as an Argentine apocalypse sci-fi story about survivors confronting a devastating toxic snowfall. Netflix Tudum’s series guide identifies Buenos Aires as both the setting and filming location.

That place matters to the show’s identity. Director Bruno Stagnaro has described the city as “another living character,” and the premise turns familiar streets and neighborhoods into the terrain of a survival story.
Why might it appeal to 3 Body Problem fans?
The strongest connection is the scale of the danger: both series put ordinary people in the path of a threat that could end human life as they know it. But they approach that danger differently. 3 Body Problem begins with a science mystery and follows scientists and a detective across settings from 1960s China to the present as they confront an extraterrestrial crisis. The Eternaut starts with a catastrophe already unfolding on the streets of Buenos Aires, then centers on survival and resistance.

This is a recommendation based on shared existential stakes, not a claim that the series have the same tone, structure, or source material. If the part of 3 Body Problem you most enjoyed was watching people piece together an unfamiliar threat, the mystery surrounding the snowfall may interest you; if you want a similar scientific puzzle or global ensemble, the two shows differ.
What does the series adapt?
The Eternaut adapts the Argentine graphic novel by writer Héctor Germán Oesterheld and artist Francisco Solano López. Netflix says the comic’s installments appeared from 1957 to 1959, with a collected volume published in 2015. It is the source work for the series, not a novelization created for the screen.

Stagnaro, who created and directed the series and co-wrote it with Ariel Staltari, described his adaptation approach as trying to preserve “the genuine emotion of living an adventure on the corner of your neighborhood” and the construction of Juan Salvo as an Argentine hero. That focus helps explain why the Buenos Aires setting is more than a backdrop.
Who is in The Eternaut, and where can you watch it?
The six-episode live-action series arrived on Netflix on April 30, 2025, according to Netflix Tudum. Netflix lists Ricardo Darín, Carla Peterson, César Troncoso, Andrea Pietra, Ariel Staltari, Marcelo Subiotto, Claudio Martínez Bel, Orianna Cárdenas, and Mora Fisz among the cast. Is 3 Body Problem continuing?
Yes. Netflix announced in May 2024 that 3 Body Problem was renewed for seasons 2 and 3. In a later update, Netflix reported that season two was in production at that time; that report establishes its status then, not its current production status. Netflix Tudum’s renewal update has the announcement details.
