Spoilers for Episodes 12–13: Andy Rueda helped Sam and Genevieve pull off the Operation: Italy blindside of Caroline, then was voted out at the next Tribal Council. The sequence can read as sweet revenge against the Gata relationships he had come to distrust, but the episodes establish the betrayal—not that revenge was Andy’s stated motive.
Why Andy was ready to leave Gata behind
Andy’s shift did not begin with Operation: Italy. In Episode 7, after Sol told Andy that he had voted for him, Andy confronted him about the vote. Sol pointed to Sam, and Andy began to reconsider his old Gata ties. Inside Survivor’s recap describes Andy as deciding that Gata had to go (Inside Survivor, Episode 7 recap, Nov. 1, 2024).
That history gives the Episode 12 move its sting: Andy was no longer treating his former alliance as a bond he had to protect. But a strategic break with Gata is not, by itself, proof of a personal revenge motive.
How Operation: Italy took out Caroline
In Episode 12, Sam and Genevieve were in danger. Andy proposed using suspicion that one of them had an idol to encourage the other players to split their votes. The plan shifted after Rachel won immunity. Sam gave Genevieve an expired Gata idol, which she used to make a fake idol. The votes split between Sam and Genevieve, while Andy joined Sam and Genevieve in voting against Caroline. Caroline was eliminated (TVLine, Episode 12 recap, Dec. 4, 2024).

Before the vote, TVLine framed the question as whether Andy would move against Caroline or reclaim his place with the underdogs. The outcome was the first option: he helped shape the vote-splitting idea and cast a vote against Caroline. The successful move gave him a new position alongside Sam and Genevieve, but it did not secure him safety.
Why Andy’s new position collapsed the next episode
At the start of Episode 13, the trio tried to recruit Teeny. Rachel overheard their conversation, including discussion of her advantages and her status as a target. Rachel and Sue later offered Andy a place in a Final 3 if he would vote out Sam. Andy declined the pitch and told Rachel he would be better off voting for her.

At Tribal Council, Rachel played her idol, Sam’s vote was blocked, and Rachel and Sue voted Andy out. His Caroline flip had succeeded, but the next vote removed him (TVLine, Episode 13 recap, Dec. 11, 2024; Inside Survivor, Episode 13 recap, Dec. 13, 2024).
Keep the two Episode 13 exits separate
Andy was not the only player eliminated in Episode 13. Later, Sam and Genevieve voted for each other, Sue played her idol, and the vote tied. Genevieve was then eliminated. That later result followed Andy’s vote and was a separate Tribal Council outcome (TVLine’s Episode 13 recap).

- Boxed Game
Was it revenge, or a survival play?
“Sweet revenge” works as a description of the dramatic reversal: Andy had been burned by Gata ties, helped break up another group’s position, and then lost his own footing almost immediately. The episode accounts establish his actions and their consequences, but do not provide a named player’s statement that Andy made the move for revenge. His decision can be read as both a break from his old relationships and an attempt to improve his position; his private motive remains unconfirmed.
The two strategic choices also had different immediate aims. Andy’s Episode 12 plan helped redirect votes and eliminate Caroline; Rachel’s Episode 13 response followed her overhearing the trio, and her idol helped protect her while Andy was voted out. The sequence shows a rapid counter-move, not proof that either player’s strategy was objectively superior.

How Andy’s story fits the season’s ending
Rachel LaMont ultimately won Survivor 47, receiving seven jury votes to Sam Phalen’s one and Sue Smey’s none. At Final Tribal Council, Andy questioned Rachel about her voting record (TVLine, finale recap, Dec. 18, 2024). His Episode 12 success, then, was a dramatic short-term turn—not the last word on the season’s outcome.
