Former Scrubs writer and producer Eric Weinberg was ordered to stand trial on 28 counts in May 2024. That order was a procedural step, not a finding of guilt. His trial began in Los Angeles Superior Court on October 1, 2026, according to the Los Angeles Times. The reports cited here do not establish a verdict or final disposition.
What happened in the case?
Weinberg was arrested in August 2022 and faced charges including rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual battery and false imprisonment, the Los Angeles Times reported. The charges are allegations; their descriptions and counts can change as a case proceeds.
After a preliminary hearing, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo ordered Weinberg to stand trial on 28 counts in May 2024, according to TheWrap. The preliminary hearing included testimony from nine women. An order to stand trial means the case proceeds to trial; it is not a conviction or a determination that the allegations have been proved.
Has the trial started?
Yes. The Los Angeles Times reported that trial began on October 1, 2026. A Variety report published October 2 said seven women were expected to testify at trial. That is a separate stage and witness count from the nine women who testified at the 2024 preliminary hearing.

Variety reported an expected trial duration of six to eight weeks. That was an estimate at the time of its October 2 report, not confirmation of how long proceedings lasted. The cited reports do not provide a verdict or final result.
What prosecutors and the defense argued
According to the Los Angeles Times, prosecutors alleged that Weinberg used his Hollywood résumé and association with Scrubs when inviting women to photo shoots. The report summarized the defense position as an argument that Weinberg may have acted like a “creep” but that the encounters were not unlawful. Those are opposing characterizations by the parties, not established findings.

How the case reached trial

What the 2024 headline means—and what it does not
“Ordered to stand trial” describes a decision made before trial, not a verdict. The 2024 order followed a preliminary hearing; the trial itself began more than two years later, in October 2026. The distinction matters because allegations and arguments presented before or during trial are not the same as findings by a court.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Weinberg was associated with Scrubs from 2001 to 2010. That professional connection explains the description of him as a show producer, but it does not establish anything about the criminal allegations.
