Spoilers for the Suits LA premiere. The pilot opens with Ted Black losing his planned merger partner, his staff and clients, then adds a new partnership, a producer’s murder case and flashbacks to New York. Its final twist reveals that Eddie is dead in the present—but creator Aaron Korsh frames Eddie’s appearances as Ted’s subconscious, not a confirmed literal ghost.
What happens in the Suits LA premiere?
Ted Black leads Black Lane Law, a Los Angeles firm handling entertainment and criminal cases. A former federal prosecutor in New York, Ted is trying to build the firm with Stuart Lane, his friend and fellow partner. Instead, Stuart cuts Ted out of their planned merger and leaves to join a competing firm, taking employees and clients with him. The premiere makes the split the central professional crisis, not a routine change of plans. TVLine’s February 23, 2025, interview with creator Aaron Korsh recounts the departure and its fallout.
Stuart’s offer to Erica backfires
Stuart also tries to recruit Erica Rollins as an informant inside Ted’s firm, dangling a future promotion. Erica has heard that Stuart’s view of her potential is limited, so she rejects the deal. Ted responds by making her a partner and head of entertainment, giving her both a senior role and a clear reason to stay.
Ted takes on a murder case
Amid the firm’s upheaval, Ted takes the murder case of a producer client. That matter introduces the criminal-law side of Black Lane Law alongside its entertainment work; the premiere’s plot account does not establish the case’s outcome.

Rick’s departure adds a second loss
Rick Dodson, another lawyer Ted mentored, eventually leaves for Stuart’s new firm. His exit is distinct from Stuart’s: Stuart engineers the split and strips away people and business, while Rick’s move lands as a more personal loss for Ted.
Why do the flashbacks matter?
The present-day firm crisis runs alongside flashbacks to Ted’s final year in New York. Korsh said that period involves a mobster investigation, Eddie and Ted’s father. The premiere uses those past events to place Ted’s current life beside unresolved history, rather than presenting the firm drama as the only story in motion. Korsh discusses the flashback material in the same TVLine interview.

Is Eddie a ghost at the end of the pilot?
The ending reveals that Eddie is dead in the present. That makes the appearances unsettling, but it does not establish that Eddie is literally haunting Ted. Korsh described present-day Eddie as Ted’s subconscious—the “voice of forgiveness”—and as a softer part of Ted that he is not in touch with. On the evidence of the premiere and the creator’s explanation, the more grounded reading is that Eddie gives form to Ted’s inner voice, while the exact mechanics of the appearances are left open.

Korsh described Suits LA as meeting its firm at a different stage from the original series: “In the original Suits, we showed the love between them before the discord.” The premiere reverses that order by foregrounding betrayal and departures. Ted’s promotion of Erica, however, establishes loyalty and trust amid the damage; the relationships are not all reduced to the breakup with Stuart. TVLine published Korsh’s comment on February 23, 2025.
