Here are 15 details he has shared in interviews, with dates attached where personal circumstances may have changed.
Who is Braun Strowman outside the ring?
1. His real name is Adam Scherr
WWE bills him as Braun Strowman, while MLB.com identifies him as Adam Scherr, born in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. WWE’s profile and a 2019 MLB.com interview establish the distinction between his public ring name and name off the mat.
2. Wisconsin is a family connection
In the 2019 MLB.com interview, Scherr said his mother’s family came from Hartford and his father’s from Slinger, Wisconsin. He described the state as his “other home.”
3. His 92-year-old grandfather once watched him wrestle live
That same 2019 account says Scherr’s 92-year-old grandfather attended a match with Scherr’s great-aunt and great-uncle. Scherr said it was the first time they had seen him wrestle in person.

4. He has spoken about childhood bullying and dyslexia
In a 2023 interview with Universal Technical Institute (UTI), Scherr described being bullied as a child and having mild dyslexia. He said he attended extra classes and night classes to finish high school. These are his recollections, not a general claim about how people with dyslexia experience school.
What did Adam Scherr do before wrestling?
5. He trained in automotive mechanics and worked at a tire shop
Scherr told UTI that he took auto-mechanics classes in high school, got a tire-shop job before his senior year and spent 11 years working as a mechanic. He reflected on the surprising connection between that work and wrestling: “It’s so nuts how they kind of go hand-in-hand with each other.”
6. He won two named strongman titles
UTI’s 2023 profile reports that Scherr won the North American Strongman National Championship in 2011 and the Arnold Amateur Strongman World Championship in 2012. These strongman achievements preceded his best-known wrestling career.
7. His ring name was inspired partly by baseball
Scherr told MLB.com that he hit on “Braun” after hearing a SportsCenter discussion of baseball player Ryan Braun. He said the surname was initially suggested as “Stowman” before it became “Strowman.” As he put it, “Ryan Braun is a big contributing factor to The Monster Among Men becoming a real life character.”
What are his interests away from wrestling?
8. He described a nine-car collection in 2023
In UTI’s 2023 interview, Scherr said his collection had reached nine cars. He named a 1987 Buick Grand National, a 1997 Toyota Supra, a 2015 Dodge diesel truck, a 2020 twin-turbo Mustang and a 2022 Scat Pack Charger. This is a dated, self-reported snapshot, not a current inventory.
9. He said his garage had an 18-foot wrestling ring
In the same 2023 interview, Scherr described a 5,300-square-foot house with one bedroom and two bathrooms, plus an 18-foot wrestling ring in the garage. The figures are his account at that time; they do not establish where he lives now or what his home is like today.
10. He calls himself an outdoorsman
Scherr listed hunting, fishing, camping and four-wheeling among his outdoor interests in the UTI interview.
11. He described a Wisconsin property and Polaris vehicles
Also in 2023, Scherr said he had a Polaris partnership and described using the company’s vehicles on a 580-acre Wisconsin property. The interview documents what he said then; it does not establish that the partnership remains active.
How do food and family figure into his life?
12. He traces his interest in cooking to childhood
In an October 2025 USA Network interview, Scherr said his parents were very good cooks. Even when the family had little, he recalled, they did not go without meals. He said that experience taught him how to make large meals from a small number of ingredients.
13. His food-show work puts him in kitchens, not culinary school
USA Network described his series Everything on the Menu as restaurant travel. Scherr spoke about getting hands-on in kitchens and talking with chefs, owners and customers. The interview supports his interest in food and the show’s format; it does not say he has formal culinary training. In the same 2025 food interview, he described his response to food as “pure raw emotion.”
14. He said he has not shaved his beard since 2011
A November 2025 USA Network interview reports that Scherr said he had been razor-free since 2011 and called his beard a family trait. He said his father had worn a full beard since age 18.
What has he shared about his relationships?
15. He publicly described a relationship in December 2025
In a December 5, 2025 USA Network report, Scherr said he was in a relationship, that he and his partner met through mutual friends, and that they had known each other for six years. He did not name the partner. This is a dated disclosure, not confirmation of his relationship status in October 2026.
Why these details need dates
Several of the most vivid details—his cars, house, garage ring and Wisconsin property—come from Scherr’s 2023 interview. The relationship disclosure is from December 2025. Those accounts offer a window into what he shared at the time, not a guarantee that the details remain unchanged.
For career context, WWE’s official profile credits him as a former Universal Champion. USA Network reported in November 2025 that WWE had released him in May 2025 and that he was taking an extended break while recovering; see its November 21, 2025 report. These sources do not establish his current wrestling status in October 2026.
