Evidence Photos From Dee Dee Blanchard’s Murder: What’s Publicly Verified

A secondary archive indexes photo-related records in the Dee Dee Blanchard case, but its listings do not authenticate images or establish their official release status.

A secondary online archive indexes several records labeled as photo logs and a photograph of a knife in the Dee Dee Blanchard case. That index does not authenticate the files or establish that they are complete, officially released, or still publicly accessible. The sources reviewed here do not confirm the provenance or current release status of specific crime-scene photographs.

What the public record index lists

The Gypsy Rose Archive’s record index names several photograph-related entries: supplemental crime-scene logs; “Photograph of the KVD knife per the request of the PA”; and photo logs labeled “Days Inn,” “Gypsy & Nick,” “KVD Knife,” and “Blanchard House.” It also lists a crime-scene diagram and an autopsy report.

The archive describes itself as linking records and other materials, but it is a secondary archive—not an identified government records custodian. An index entry establishes only that the archive lists an item under that name. It does not establish that an entry contains photographs, reveal what any image depicts, or confirm completeness, redactions, authenticity, or official release. An online copy is not authenticated merely because it is presented as a case file.

Are Dee Dee Blanchard crime-scene photos officially released?

The sources cited here do not establish whether a court or government custodian has officially released the specific photo files, whether circulating copies match original records, or whether the files remain accessible. No custodian certification or court ruling confirming the provenance and release status of these specific photographs is identified.

For a file to be described confidently as official evidence, look for its source in a court record or a release from the responsible agency, along with enough identifying information to connect the image to that record. A filename, repost, archive listing, or social-media caption alone is not verification. Do not label an image “official,” “complete,” or “leaked” without evidence supporting that precise claim.

What reporting says about the case

A contemporaneous Washington Post report from June 22, 2015 relayed statements from police files and comments by Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott. It is reporting about the investigation, not an independent examination of the underlying photographs.

A Washington Post trial report from November 15, 2018 stated that Dee Dee had 17 stab wounds and reported that Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2016 while Nick Godejohn’s first-degree murder trial was underway. Those are case-context details from the report; they do not authenticate or describe any particular image.

How to assess a photograph’s provenance

  • Identify the source: Is the image attached to a court filing or obtained from the agency that holds the record, rather than reposted by an intermediary?
  • Check what the source actually says: A “photo log” is a record category; the label alone does not prove the contents or graphicness of a file.
  • Look for release and redaction information: Confirm whether the record was released, what was withheld or redacted, and whether the file is complete.
  • Keep the claim narrow: If provenance is not documented, call it an unverified online image—not an authenticated evidence photograph.

A documentary alternative

Crime+Investigation UK’s case explainer discusses the case and references its documentary programming. It may be a way to learn about the story, but the page is not evidence that any crime-scene photograph is authentic. Availability of programming can vary.
