Emma Stone said she would not make that kind of joke about Taylor Swift again because headlines had taken her earlier remark out of context, according to an ANI report published by Mid-Day. The report attributes her comments to an interview with Variety; the original interview was not independently verified here.

What was the original joke about?
The report links Stone’s remark to the 2024 Golden Globes, where she had playfully called Swift an “a–hole” while speaking to reporters backstage. Swift had applauded and cheered when Stone won the award for her role in Poor Things. Stone described Swift as a friend of nearly 20 years, so the reported exchange was framed as teasing between longtime friends rather than a serious dispute.
Why did Stone say she would not repeat it?
Stone’s stated reason was that headlines had pulled the joke out of context. Her reported response was about how the remark was presented publicly, not an indication that she and Swift had fallen out. ANI’s account says the two met at the Young Hollywood Awards in 2008. It also points to Stone’s June 2023 Vanity Fair interview, where she said Swift helped her get Eras Tour tickets and called her “a wonderful friend.”
