Dominik Mysterio’s 2025 Intercontinental Championship story gave him meaningful, high-profile opportunities—but the available record does not confirm his October 2026 booking or establish that WWE has officially declared his “main-event time” is now. The strongest case for the thesis is historical: he defended the title against Penta at Backlash, then lost it to John Cena on Raw on November 10, 2025.
What “main-event time” means in this case
“Main Event Time Is Now” works as an editorial reading of Mysterio’s rising profile, not as a verified WWE slogan, booking announcement, or direct quote. To assess the claim, it helps to separate three things: championship opportunities, the level of opponents involved, and whether WWE actually places a wrestler in a main-event match. The documented events below show notable title activity and a marquee opponent; they do not establish a current main-event role.
The documented title story in 2025
A successful defense at Backlash
A May 2025 report says Mysterio retained the Intercontinental Championship against Penta at Backlash. That defense is evidence of a championship program involving a prominent opponent, though one defense by itself does not settle his long-term place on the card. CBS Sports’ Backlash 2025 recap covers the event.
John Cena wins the title
On Raw on November 10, 2025, John Cena defeated Mysterio to win the Intercontinental Championship. CBS Sports’ Raw recap reports the match and title change; ESPN’s preview independently identifies Cena as the new champion and says a rematch with Mysterio was planned for Survivor Series.

A match against Cena for a championship is a significant opportunity and supports describing this as a higher-profile period. It is not, by itself, proof that Mysterio had become a permanent main-event fixture. The reports establish those 2025 events; they do not establish his title status, matches, or position in October 2026.
What Mysterio says about the championship
In a WWE Main Event episode transcript, Mysterio says, “This title is validation.” That is character-promo language: it conveys how the wrestler frames the championship, rather than providing an independent measure of his career standing. The same transcript includes the boast that he is “the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time”; that is promotional hyperbole, not a factual ranking. Read the WWE Main Event episode transcript.

What the evidence does—and does not—establish
- Established: Mysterio defended the Intercontinental Championship against Penta at Backlash in May 2025 and lost it to Cena on Raw on November 10, 2025.
- Reasonable interpretation: Those title matches show that WWE gave him consequential championship opportunities during 2025.
- Not established: The sources do not confirm his October 2026 booking or championship status, nor do they provide a meaningful organization-published statistic that proves a “main-event” ranking.
For that reason, the most supportable version of the headline is about a notable stretch and rising profile, not a confirmed present-day booking status. A stronger claim would require current, dated evidence of where WWE is placing him.
