What happened to Disney+ shared sessions?
The feature most likely meant by “shared sessions” is GroupWatch, which let people watch Disney+ together remotely. A Disney+ community post asking whether the feature had disappeared reflects the confusion, but it is not an official announcement. No removal date, reason or worldwide rollout is established by the available official guidance, so those details should not be treated as confirmed.
How to watch Disney+ together now with SharePlay
Disney documents SharePlay as a synchronized viewing option for subscribers using an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV while on a FaceTime call. Participants watch the same content in sync, and viewing can be passed to Apple TV. Each participant needs an active Disney+ subscription. Disney’s US help page names eligible plans, but plan eligibility and feature availability can vary by region and change; check the local Disney+ Help Center for current terms.
What you need
- A supported Apple device and a FaceTime call.
- An active Disney+ subscription for each participant.
- A plan and feature availability that qualify in your region, as set out in local Disney+ guidance.
SharePlay is a current option for some Apple-device users, not a return of GroupWatch. Apple TV 4K may be useful if you want to watch on a television through SharePlay, but it does not create a session on its own: participants still need compatible Apple devices and Disney+ subscriptions.

Account sharing is not group viewing
Disney+ says accounts cannot be shared outside the defined Household. For someone outside it, Disney identifies a separate subscription or an Extra Member as possible access routes. Its Extra Member guidance requires the person to be at least 18, live in the same country or region as the account holder, and not already have an active Disney+, Hulu or ESPN subscription. These rules concern account access; they do not synchronize playback.
Profiles and Playlists do not replace GroupWatch
Profiles let household members keep watchlists separate and receive recommendations based on viewing history. Disney says an account can have six additional profiles, or seven total. That profile limit organizes one account; it does not make multiple viewers’ playback run in sync.

The Walt Disney Company announced Playlists on September 15, 2026, describing themed collections of episodes and movies for continuous viewing. The announcement does not describe synchronized playback between remote viewers, so Playlists should not be mistaken for a watch-party feature.

SharePlay is the only named synchronized-viewing option established in the current official material covered here. Before relying on another method, check whether it supports Disney+ on your devices, whether every viewer needs a subscription, whether it is available in your region, and whether it synchronizes playback or provides voice/video chat. Do not assume a third-party synchronization tool currently works with Disney+ without verifying it.
