American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson is a ten-episode scripted dramatization of the criminal trial that followed the killings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. It is the first installment of FX’s American Crime Story anthology, not a documentary or a courtroom transcript.
What is The People v. O.J. Simpson about?
The 2016 miniseries follows the prosecution and defense teams, the courtroom proceedings and the intense public attention surrounding O.J. Simpson’s murder trial. It is adapted from Jeffrey Toobin’s 1996 book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson, as the Associated Press explains in its coverage of the series.

The case ended on October 3, 1995, when Simpson was acquitted of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. That is the criminal trial’s verdict; it should not be confused with the separate civil case. The AP’s archival account of the verdict describes the divided public response and the trial’s extraordinary media attention. President Bill Clinton, as quoted in that report, said: “Our system of justice requires respect for their verdict.”
How many episodes are there?
The first American Crime Story installment has ten episodes, according to the FX season page. The story is contained in one limited-series season.

How is it different from a documentary?
The People v. O.J. Simpson is a scripted dramatic retelling: actors portray real people and scenes are shaped into a narrative. It is not documentary evidence or an authoritative record of every courtroom exchange. The AP distinguishes the ten-episode series from the documentary O.J.: Made in America, which is a separate screen treatment. Choose the series for dramatic interpretation of the trial; choose a documentary for nonfiction investigation and context.
Where can you watch it?
FX’s season page links to Hulu, and the AP has also reported Hulu availability. That is not a guarantee that the series is currently available in every country or under every subscription plan. Check the current catalog for your region before subscribing or searching for a particular edition. The sources establish no specific current DVD or Blu-ray release.
