The available record snapshots show Zoe Saldaña reaching four qualifying films in 2023, while an older Guinness World Records page lists Johnny Depp, Gary Oldman, and Hugo Weaving with three each. These figures count films, not the combined box-office totals of an actor’s career.
How many billion-dollar movies have the leading actors appeared in?
The best-supported milestones are not a current, exhaustive leaderboard. GamesRadar reported that Zoe Saldaña became the first actor to appear in four films that crossed $1 billion worldwide in 2023: Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame (GamesRadar). An older Guinness World Records record page names Johnny Depp, Gary Oldman, and Hugo Weaving as joint record holders, with three appearances apiece (Guinness World Records).
| Actor | Reported qualifying films | What the figure establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Zoe Saldaña | Four | GamesRadar reported the four-film milestone in 2023; it is not a verified complete count through 2026. GamesRadar |
| Johnny Depp | Three | Named as a joint record holder on the older Guinness page; not a complete current leaderboard. Guinness World Records |
| Gary Oldman | Three | Named as a joint record holder on the older Guinness page; not a complete current leaderboard. Guinness World Records |
| Hugo Weaving | Three | Named as a joint record holder on the older Guinness page; not a complete current leaderboard. Guinness World Records |
Because these sources use different publication snapshots, the figures should be read as documented milestones, not as a consistent ranking of every actor today.
What counts as a “billion-dollar movie” appearance?
For this comparison, the relevant measure is the number of individual films in which an actor appeared that surpassed $1 billion in worldwide theatrical gross. It is not the sum of the worldwide grosses of all movies in an actor’s filmography. The available sources do not establish a single comprehensive set of rules for cameos, uncredited roles, re-releases, or ensemble appearances, so those cases cannot be treated as uniformly resolved here.

- Factory sealed DVD
A consistent ranking would need to use the same worldwide-gross source and date for every film, define which cast credits qualify, and count a qualifying film once for each eligible actor. Without that dataset and those rules, a definitive numbered list would imply more certainty than the evidence supports.

Career-gross lists can look similar, but they answer a different question. The Numbers explains that its worldwide leading-role chart assigns the full box-office gross of each film to every performer listed as a lead, so a single movie can contribute its entire gross to several actors’ totals (The Numbers). That does not show how many films each actor appeared in that individually crossed $1 billion.

- Factory sealed DVD
Guinness World Records reported that, as of 26 January 2026, Saldaña’s 18 lead-role movies had grossed $15,615,919,486 globally, citing The Numbers; Guinness names Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Avatar: Fire and Ash among those leading roles (Guinness World Records). This is a lead-role career total, not her count of billion-dollar movies. GamesRadar separately reported that her career worldwide box office exceeded $15.4 billion following Avatar: Fire and Ash; that too is a career-total statistic, not a qualifying-film count (GamesRadar).

What can—and cannot—be concluded
- Saldaña has a documented four-film milestone, reported in 2023; the sources here do not verify her exact qualifying-film count as of 2026.
- Guinness’s older record page lists Depp, Oldman, and Weaving at three qualifying appearances each, but it should not be presented as the current top three.
- Career-gross totals, whether based on leading roles or broader filmographies, cannot substitute for counting the individual films above the worldwide $1 billion threshold.
