If you liked Devotion for its naval aviation, the friendship between Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner, or its portrayal of Black aviators facing barriers, these five films offer different ways into those themes. Some are historical dramas; others are contemporary or looser matches.

| Red Tails (2012) | Black military aviators and discrimination | Historical World War II aerial action |
| Top Gun: Maverick (2022) | Naval aviation, mentorship, loyalty, and risk | Contemporary action film |
| Top Gun (1986) | Navy fighter-pilot culture and flying | Flight-focused action |

| Only the Brave (2017) | Service, camaraderie, and sacrifice | Looser thematic match, away from aviation and wartime history |
1. Red Tails (2012): for Black aviators and aerial combat
Choose Red Tails if Brown’s place in military aviation and the discrimination he faced were central to what stayed with you. The film is inspired by the Tuskegee Airmen’s service in World War II, and Lucasfilm highlights both aerial action and the racism the pilots confronted. It is a thematic parallel, not a continuation of Devotion: the war, unit, and historical circumstances differ.
Lucasfilm’s film page also attributes this line to Colonel Bullard: “We have a right to fight for our country. The same as every other American.” Red Tails is rated PG-13 and runs 2 hours 5 minutes, according to 20th Century Studios.

2. Top Gun: Maverick (2022): for mentorship and dangerous missions
This is the closest pick for viewers who want naval aviation paired with a veteran pilot guiding younger aviators. Paramount’s synopsis also foregrounds bonds among pilots and a high-risk mission, making it a natural choice for the loyalty and sacrifice in Devotion. The difference matters: Top Gun: Maverick is a contemporary action film, not a historical true-story drama. See Paramount’s film page.
3. Top Gun (1986): for Navy fighter-pilot culture
For flying and the Navy fighter-pilot setting, go back to the original Top Gun. Paramount describes the film around the Navy’s fighter weapons school and emphasizes its aerial photography. It is a more competitive, less history-centered match than Devotion, so expect flight-focused action rather than the same true-story emphasis. Paramount lists it as PG with a 110-minute runtime on its film page.

4. The Tuskegee Airmen (1995): for a broader historical companion
If you want to stay with the history of Black military aviators and the barriers they faced, The Tuskegee Airmen is a relevant next title. It is a broader companion rather than a film about Brown and Hudner or Korean War naval aviation. Confirm the specific edition and current availability before choosing where to watch; current regional availability is not established here.
5. Only the Brave (2017): for service and sacrifice
Only the Brave is the loosest match on this list. It fits if the unit camaraderie and personal stakes mattered more to you than the aviation or wartime setting. It shifts away from both, so approach it as a broader service-and-sacrifice drama rather than a war-film equivalent.
