If you’re asking “Where do you read comics online?”, the best answer depends on what you want to read: a publisher’s back catalog, new manga chapters, scrolling webcomics, comics borrowed through a library, or a specific digital volume to buy. These 13 services cover those different needs—but they are not interchangeable, and a large catalog does not guarantee that a particular series is included.
Choose by how you want to read
| Reading goal | Best place to start | Access model |
|---|---|---|
| Explore a publisher’s back catalog | Marvel Unlimited or DC Universe Infinite | Subscription; each service has its own catalog |
| Borrow comics through a library | Hoopla or Libby | Library lending; participation and selection depend on your library |
| Read webcomics and webtoons | WEBTOON, Tapas, or GlobalComix | Serialized reading; access and paid features vary by platform |
| Read manga | VIZ Manga, Shonen Jump, MANGA Plus, or GlobalComix | Series, chapter access, and subscription terms vary |
| Buy a particular digital issue or volume | Kindle, Kobo, or Google Play Books | Per-title storefront purchase; verify the listing and terms |
Before subscribing or buying, search for the exact series and volume, check whether the service works in your country and on your device, and confirm whether access is a subscription, a temporary loan, or a purchase.
Publisher-focused subscriptions
Marvel Unlimited
Marvel Unlimited is the most direct starting point if Marvel is the main reason you want a comics service. Marvel describes it as a membership with more than 30,000 digital issues, available through a web browser and mobile app, and advertises offline reading on compatible devices. That issue count is Marvel’s own catalog claim; the page’s crawl date is not stated, so confirm current membership terms and whether the specific run you want is available.
DC Universe Infinite
DC Universe Infinite is aimed at readers of DC, Vertigo, Black Label, and related titles. Its join page lists 35,000+ comics and graphic novels for Ultra and 27,000+ for Standard. It also gives different print-to-digital windows: new comics arrive 30 days after print for Ultra and six months after print for Standard. Those figures and terms are from DC’s current join page accessed in 2026; check its supported-country and device information and current plan details before joining, since access varies by territory and can change.
#1 Best Overall
Library borrowing
Hoopla
Hoopla lets eligible library members read comics online and download titles where supported. Its comics collection includes publishers such as Archie, DC, Image, and Marvel. You need a library card from a participating library, and the available catalog and borrowing limits are set locally; a title appearing on Hoopla in one place may not be available through another library.
Libby
Libby is another library route for comics and graphic novels licensed through OverDrive. Search your own library’s catalog in the app rather than assuming that all Libby users see the same collection. Your library determines which titles it licenses and whether copies are available to borrow.

Webcomics and serialized stories
WEBTOON
WEBTOON is suited to episodic webcomics, especially if you like reading a story in a continuous, vertical-scroll format rather than turning through conventional comic pages. Its browsing areas include fantasy, drama, comedy, action, superhero, and science fiction, and it offers a schedule view for series updates.
Tapas
Tapas brings comics and novels together in an app, making it worth considering if you want serialized comics alongside fiction. Current pricing, catalog size, and availability by region are not established here, so check the app and its terms for your country before treating it as a substitute for a specific subscription or collection.
Rank #3
- HUGE COMIC BOOK LOT 25 MARVEL DC INDY SUPERMAN BATMAN X-MEN NO DUPLICATES
GlobalComix
GlobalComix spans comics, manga, webcomics, webtoons, and manhwa, making it a useful discovery option across formats. Its app listing claims a catalog of 100,000+ comics and describes free episodes and offline reading with Gold. The catalog figure is the service’s own claim; confirm whether a specific title is included, which features require Gold, and whether they are available in your region.
Manga services
VIZ Manga
VIZ Manga is an official VIZ option for readers seeking manga chapters. Its apps page, accessed in 2026, describes a subscription library with 10,000+ chapters at $1.99 per month and also advertises free chapters. Those are VIZ’s stated offer and catalog count, not an independent audit; check the current price, chapter access, and regional terms on the page before subscribing.

Digital comic storefronts
Kindle
Kindle makes sense if you want to buy a particular digital issue or collected volume through Amazon and already use its storefront or reading app. Inventory is title- and country-specific, so inspect the exact listing and its download and access terms before purchasing. A Kindle Colorsoft offers a portable color-screen option, while a larger tablet may make a full comic page easier to view.
Kobo
Kobo has a dedicated category for comics, graphic novels, and manga. Treat it as a storefront for finding and buying particular books, not as an unlimited comics subscription. Confirm that the title and format are offered in your country before deciding.
Google Play Books
Google Play Books may be a convenient storefront for Android users seeking an individual digital book, but the verified Google page is the Play Store’s comics-app category—not a confirmation of Play Books’ current comics catalog or purchasing features. Search for the exact book in Play Books and check its format and terms; do not confuse the app category with the storefront catalog.
Quick Recap
What to check before choosing
- Series coverage: Search for the exact run, volume, or chapter. A platform-wide count cannot tell you whether your preferred series is there.
- Access model: Subscriptions provide access under the plan’s terms, library apps lend licensed copies, and storefronts sell titles individually. Confirm the terms for the service and specific book.
- Release timing: For DC Universe Infinite, the listed delay differs by plan. Other services’ current release windows are not established here; check their terms if reading new releases matters.
- Country and device: Licensing, supported devices, and availability vary. Verify access from the country and device you will actually use.
- Reading format: Vertical-scroll webcomics, manga chapters, and full-page comic issues feel different on screen. A larger display can make full-page art easier to see, while a phone is convenient for scrolling and short sessions.
- Offline reading: Confirm whether downloads are supported for your device and plan, and whether downloaded material remains subject to subscription or borrowing limits.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
