Hall said he read the novel after landing the role and kept it close on set as a reference, while leaving room to shape Beck for the screen.
Hall began with Lee Child’s Persuader
Season 3 adapts Persuader, and Hall said he read the novel after getting the part of Zachary Beck. “Once I got the job, I did read the novel and I really liked it,” he told ComicBook.com. He also kept the book with him on set, using it to look for details and get a feel for how Child wrote.

That made the novel a point of reference, not a script Hall intended simply to reproduce. He described reading for Child’s voice and sense of story, then making his own choices in performance. Hall also said he sought a meeting with showrunner Nick Santora and screen-tested for the role.
Beck’s relationship with his son gave Hall a personal connection
Beck’s story includes a strained relationship with his son, Richard. Hall’s recent experience as a father offered him emotional material for that part of the character. In a Yahoo Entertainment interview report, Hall said, “Suddenly, I had a wealth of things to draw on.” TheWrap likewise connected Hall’s fatherhood with his portrayal of Beck’s relationship with his son.

That is Hall describing a source of understanding for the performance; it does not mean Beck’s fictional circumstances mirror Hall’s family life. Reporting has also framed Beck as damaged and seeking redemption with his son, a dynamic that gives the villain’s story an emotional dimension beyond his conflict with Reacher.
Music helped Hall set the mood of individual scenes
Hall said music was part of how he contextualized scenes. “I use music a lot, to be very honest with the kind of contextualizing I’m doing,” he told ComicBook.com. The choices were not tied to one defining soundtrack: he described a range “from Led Zeppelin to hip hop to jazz,” depending on the scene.
