The Fantastic Four: First Steps has two credits scenes. The mid-credits scene introduces a cloaked figure identified as Doctor Doom beside Franklin Richards, four years after the team’s fight with Galactus. The final scene is a playful animated Fantastic Four show. Neither scene confirms that Doom will destroy or remake the multiverse.
What happens in the mid-credits scene?
The scene jumps four years forward from the Fantastic Four’s confrontation with Galactus. Sue reads to Franklin, leaves to get another book, and returns to find a cloaked intruder beside him. The figure’s green cloak and mask identify him as Doctor Doom, although the camera does not show his face. The scene ends without explaining why Doom is there or what Franklin understands about the encounter. TheWrap’s scene breakdown and ComicBook.com’s explanation describe the encounter.
What the film shows is an ominous meeting: Doom is near Franklin. It does not show him kidnapping Franklin, recruiting him, or explaining a plan. The idea that Franklin may matter to Doom’s future plans is a reasonable interpretation, not a confirmed motive.
What happens in the final credits scene?
The last scene presents an old-fashioned animated Fantastic Four program within the film’s world. The team appears in cartoon form, making this a playful bonus rather than a continuation of the Doom and Franklin story. It does not clarify Doom’s motives or advance the multiverse question. TheWrap and ComicBook.com describe both scenes.

Does the scene mean the Marvel multiverse is doomed?
No—not as a confirmed plot outcome. The scene invites speculation that Franklin could be important to Doom, but it never says Doom intends to destroy or remake the multiverse. Claims that Franklin will create Battleworld, or that Doom will use him to remake reality, go beyond what the film establishes.
The theory has a comics parallel. ComicBook.com points to Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Wars, where Doom becomes a godlike ruler and reality is remade as Battleworld. That story offers context for why the encounter feels significant; it is not proof that the MCU will adapt the same plot or give Franklin the same role. Readers interested in the comparison can treat the 2015 Secret Wars comic as optional background, not a key required to understand the film.

How does Earth-828 connect to Earth-616?
Franchise coverage identifies the Fantastic Four’s setting as Earth-828 and the main MCU setting as Earth-616. The Los Angeles Times connects the team’s eventual presence in Earth-616 to the Excelsior’s appearance in the Thunderbolts* credits scene. But First Steps’ credits scenes do not show how the Fantastic Four cross between settings or explain what causes that transition. The Doom scene is a tease, not an explanation of the journey.

| Shown or established | Not established |
|---|---|
| A scene set four years after the Galactus conflict places a cloaked, masked figure identified as Doom near Franklin. | Doom’s face, purpose, or what Franklin understands about the encounter. |
| A later scene shows an in-universe animated Fantastic Four program. | Any connection between the cartoon and Doom’s plans. |
| The encounter makes Franklin’s possible importance to a future story a fair interpretation. | That Doom will kidnap or recruit Franklin, destroy the multiverse, or create Battleworld. |
| Coverage places the team’s world on Earth-828 and discusses a later Earth-616 connection. | How or why the transition between those settings happens. |
The key distinction is between the images on screen and the theories they inspire: Doom’s presence is the tease; his motive and the scale of any future conflict remain unresolved.
