When the show returned in February 2026, he confronted them and demanded answers. That is the on-screen conflict behind the “get spicy” tease—but the available interviews and episode coverage do not verify that Skye P. Marshall used those exact words.
Why Julian realizes Olympia and Matty are allied
At the Season 2 winter finale, Olympia hands Matty the Wellbrexa study. Julian sees the exchange from outside the brownstone and understands that the two women have joined forces without telling him. The document is a fictional plot device, not a real-world medical study or statistic.

Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman said the winter premiere would address Julian’s discovery and explore how the characters contain the threat and deal with its aftermath. She described the series’ approach to secrets this way: “We don’t hold secrets too long on the show — we like to see what happens when they come out and how that changes the dynamics.” TheWrap’s interview with Urman lays out that midseason setup.
What happens when Season 2 returns
In the February 2026 winter premiere, Julian presses Matty and Olympia for an explanation after discovering their secret investigation. Matty ultimately tells him that she is Madeline Kingston and explains why the Wellbrexa case matters to her. The confrontation is therefore about more than Julian being left out: it forces him to face the case and Matty’s identity.

Marshall had previously described Olympia’s Season 2 journey as involving love, trust, family, her past and future, and the challenge of caring for others without neglecting herself. She also framed Julian as someone who wants to do good but can still make damaging choices. Her December 2025 interview with TheWrap provides that character context.
The conflict does not leave Julian and Olympia permanently at odds
Later in the season, Julian accepts accountability for helping bury the Wellbrexa study. Discussing Episode 12, Marshall said that this accountability—and the fact that the exes share children—allowed “a little bit brighter light between” them. She also said a flirtatious line Jason Ritter improvised for a car scene made the final cut. Her comments describe a relationship that can soften after the confrontation, rather than a feud that only escalates. TV Insider’s Episode 12 interview with Marshall covers that shift.

Where Julian’s Season 2 story ends
By the finale, Julian helps Justice Department agent Gutierrez secure Senior’s recorded confession, bringing his father’s misconduct into the open. Matty and Olympia prepare to start their own firm, while Julian is arrested alongside other board members. Urman said that Julian has often taken the easy way out when a difficult sacrifice was required; choosing differently from his father brings real consequences into Season 3. TV Guide’s finale coverage details those developments.

The phrase is presented in the assignment’s headline as Marshall’s warning, but the interviews and episode coverage available here do not confirm it as her exact quotation. It is safer to read it as a headline tease for Julian’s reaction: he discovers the alliance, demands the truth, and becomes entangled in the investigation. The episodes then complicate that initial clash with accountability, renewed warmth between the co-parents, and serious consequences for Julian.
