Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One turns a universe-spanning catastrophe into a story anchored by the Flash. That perspective gives the animated film emotional focus, though its large cast, nonlinear structure and Tomorrowverse connections also bring exposition and adaptation compromises. It is the opening chapter of a three-part event, not a self-contained retelling of the comic.
What is Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One about?
In DC’s official synopsis, an antimatter catastrophe threatens every universe, and the Monitor gathers heroes from across the multiverse—including Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, the Flash and Green Lantern—to confront the danger. The perspective is more intimate than that premise suggests. The World’s Finest review describes a nonlinear story that follows the Flash through pivotal moments in his life, including the Justice League’s unveiling and his relationship with Iris West. Is it worth watching?
If you enjoy DC animation and want a character-led entry into a sprawling crossover, the Flash-centered approach is the film’s clearest strength. The World’s Finest reviewer praises the emotional grounding, action and drama, and the way the movie draws on earlier Tomorrowverse stories. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a consensus rating.

The same review finds that the film sometimes leans too heavily on exposition, with some awkward Flash narration, and that one fight goes on too long. A large ensemble and a nonlinear timeline give the story scope, but can make it harder to follow when characters and connections arrive in quick succession. The result is most rewarding when the Flash’s personal story stays in focus; it is less streamlined when the movie has to account for the wider continuity.
How closely does it follow the comic?
Think of the film as a reworking rather than a scene-by-scene adaptation. The World’s Finest reviewer characterizes it as a loose adaptation of the comic’s opening issues, with elements reshaped or streamlined. Viewers looking for the original series’ exact sequence and emphasis may be disappointed; those open to a new version may find the Flash-centered perspective a useful way to approach its enormous stakes.

The movie also adds material connected to its own animated continuity. In DC’s January 2024 feature, producer Jim Krieg described an Amazo storyline as an emotional heartbeat of the film and noted that it is not in the original comic. The difference reflects two jobs the film is doing at once: drawing on a famous crossover and advancing an existing screen universe. DC’s production feature
Do you need to watch the Tomorrowverse films first?
No earlier-film requirement is established in the available official material, but familiarity can help you recognize returning characters and continuity threads. The Tomorrowverse began with Superman: The Man of Tomorrow in 2020, and both DC and The World’s Finest review describe connections to the broader animated setting.

Krieg told DC that building toward Crisis was part of the plan from the start, rather than a crossover conceived after a run of unrelated films. He said the team hoped to have more installments to prepare the story, but had seven films to bring characters, assets and themes into place. That context explains why this chapter may feel like both a major event and a payoff to material from elsewhere in the continuity.
Is Part One the whole story?
No. It is the first installment of a three-part animated event, as DC stated in its January 2024 announcement. Treat this film as an opening chapter: it establishes the multiverse threat and begins the larger story, rather than resolving the entire Crisis in one movie.

Cast, runtime and content guidance
DC credits Jeff Wamester as director, with Jim Krieg as writer and producer and Kimberly S. Moreau as producer. The World’s Finest review identifies Darren Criss as Superman, Stana Katic as Wonder Woman, Jensen Ackles as Batman and Matt Bomer as the Flash among the voice cast.
Runtime listings differ by source: The World’s Finest review gives 93 minutes, while the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) lists an approximate 89-minute runtime for its UK classification record. Neither figure should be treated as a universal listing across editions or territories.

For UK viewers, the BBFC lists fantasy violence, a mass-destruction threat involving an antimatter wave, mild bad language, brief bloody images and flashing images. The classification is UK-specific; ratings and content descriptions can differ elsewhere. BBFC classification record
Home-media formats
DC’s January 2024 feature listed standard Blu-ray, a limited-edition 4K UHD steelbook and digital formats. That is a historical format announcement, not confirmation of current stock, streaming rights or storefront availability.
In a separate home-media review, The World’s Finest listed the featurettes “Crisis Prime(r)” and “The Selfless Speedster,” and reported that a Part Two clip was included digitally. Its reviewer preferred the 4K presentation to the digital 1080p edition in that comparison and said the 4K release was steelbook-only at the time.
