One-Punch Man Season 3’s first new episode, “Strategy Meeting,” has a clear job: set up a major rescue and the coming Hero Association–Monster Association conflict. It does that, but its planning-heavy focus and limited sense of visual movement make the return feel less like a forceful season opener than a piece of setup. That is a criticism of this episode’s effectiveness—not proof that every viewer disliked it.
What happens in “Strategy Meeting”
The episode centers on the rescue of a Hero Association executive’s kidnapped child. The S-class heroes discuss a raid on the Monster Association, while Garou awakens in the organization’s hideout after being taken there during the prior conflict. VIZ’s official synopsis lays out that setup.

This ensemble focus helps establish the scale of the story ahead, but it also means the premiere spends its time positioning characters and plans rather than delivering a Saitama-centered action showcase. The official anime announcement frames the season as the start of the Hero Association versus Monster Association conflict; that larger promise does not by itself make this first episode feel eventful.
Why the premiere can feel underwhelming
It prioritizes setup over momentum
A premiere after a long gap has to reorient viewers and make the next chapter feel worth returning for. “Strategy Meeting” handles the first task through its rescue plan and Garou’s situation, but the episode’s emphasis on preparation delays the payoff. That can be a reasonable choice for an arc opener, yet it makes the episode a less immediately satisfying comeback.
#1 Best Overall
Character design is stronger than perceived movement
IGN reviewer Blake Simons gave the episode 6/10, with the review reproduced on Rotten Tomatoes’ episode page. Simons praised its varied character designs and bold outlines, but judged the overall visual quality closer to a filler episode and called it “more than a little disappointing” as a season calling card. That distinction gets to the episode’s central weakness: attractive design work does not necessarily create the impression of dynamic animation.
Early viewer responses were also divided. GamesRadar’s October 13, 2025 report described comments criticizing limited movement and still frames, alongside viewers who praised the visuals, color, or introductory role of the episode. Those comments illustrate different reactions; they do not establish a representative audience consensus.

What the reception evidence actually says
The episode-specific evidence cited here is one critic review: IGN’s 6/10 assessment, reproduced by Rotten Tomatoes. It supports the argument that at least one critic found the premiere disappointing, while also noting elements worth praising. One review cannot establish a general critical consensus.
Season-level reception is a different measure. Rotten Tomatoes displayed an 8% Tomatometer from three critic reviews for Season 3 when accessed on October 8, 2026. That is a dated, changeable season score—not an episode-one rating. The listed season-review excerpts were mixed, with one praising humor and characters and another describing the season as tired and outdated. The season page should be read as a snapshot rather than a permanent verdict.

The Japanese anime site announced a broadcast beginning October 5, 2025, but that first slot was a Season 2 recap special; the new season’s weekly broadcast began October 12. VIZ separately announced an international streaming premiere for October 12, 2025, at 8:15 a.m. PT in its listed territories. The two dates refer to different programming: a recap on October 5 and the new season’s start the following week.
VIZ’s October 7, 2025 announcement listed Hulu in the United States; Disney+ in Canada; Netflix in Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand; and Crunchyroll in Latin America and Oceania. Those were the announced premiere arrangements, not a guarantee of current catalog availability. Check local service listings before subscribing.

Who may still enjoy the premiere
- Viewers invested in the ensemble: The S-class heroes’ planning and Garou’s awakening establish several threads for the conflict ahead.
- Viewers who value character design: The episode’s varied designs and bold outlines were singled out positively even in the critical IGN review.
- Viewers expecting immediate, Saitama-led action: The premiere’s main emphasis is setup, so it may not deliver the kind of kinetic return they hoped for.
VIZ lists Shinpei Nagai as director, Tomohiro Suzuki for series composition, and J.C. STAFF as the animation production studio. Those credits identify the production team; they do not establish why the episode looks or moves as it does.
