The eight regular ghosts at Woodstone span from the Viking era to the year 2000. Their deaths tie them to the estate, while their former lives reflect the communities and eras they came from. Here’s what the show and its episode guides establish—and where a precise answer remains uncertain.
At a glance: the ghosts’ eras and deaths
| Ghost | Era | Living role or community | Death or circumstances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thorfinn | Viking era, around 1007 CE | Norse traveler | Reportedly killed by lightning on the land that became Woodstone; the specific year is reported in secondary overviews, not confirmed by CBS. |
| Sasappis | Lenape life in the 1500s | Lenape storyteller | Exact cause of death is not established in the cited overviews. |
| Isaac Higgintoot | Revolutionary War period | Continental Army officer | Died of dysentery, according to secondary overviews. |
| Hetty Woodstone | Late nineteenth century | Wealthy member of the Woodstone family | Later-season recaps describe her death as suicide by telephone cord. |
| Alberta Haynes | 1920s | Singer | Murdered; later summaries identify poisoned liquor as the means. |
| Flower | 1960s | Counterculture participant and commune member | Secondary summaries say she encountered a bear while high after a music festival on the property. |
| Pete Martino | 1980s; a 2025 recap dates his death to 1985 | Scout leader | Secondary recaps describe an arrow wound; the series also gives Pete a chance to confront the truth about his death. |
| Trevor Lefkowitz | Around 2000 | Finance worker | A later recap places his death after a party in 2000. CBS’s guide focuses on the mystery of his missing pants rather than specifying the death mechanism. |
The table distinguishes episode-level confirmation from details supplied by secondary recaps. CBS episode summaries establish which stories the show covers, but they do not substantiate every exact date or cause of death.

Thorfinn: a Viking left behind
Period and life
Thorfinn represents the Norse traveler era. Overviews place him in North America around 1007 CE and describe him as having been left behind. Treat that year as a reported detail rather than a date CBS independently confirms.
Death and ghostly legacy
Those same overviews say lightning killed Thorfinn on the land that later became Woodstone. His ability to affect electricity echoes that death. CBS’s season 1 guide also introduces his Norse curse, connecting his identity to the story’s supernatural rules. CBS season 1 episode guide

Sasappis: Lenape life in the 1500s
Period and community
Sasappis is Lenape and lived in the sixteenth century. His perspective adds an Indigenous history to Woodstone that predates the mansion’s later occupants.
What remains unknown
The cited character overviews do not establish how Sasappis died. His story includes his love for a woman named Shiki, but that relationship does not answer the cause-of-death question. The responsible answer is that the exact cause is not established in those accounts, rather than guessing.
Isaac Higgintoot: a Continental Army officer
Period and death
Isaac served as a Continental Army officer during the Revolutionary War and died of dysentery, according to secondary overviews.
Life after death
His relationship with British soldier Nigel becomes a major thread in his backstory. CBS’s episode descriptions confirm that the show develops their relationship and that Isaac keeps a major secret from Nigel. The series therefore connects Isaac’s military identity to the personal life he continues to navigate as a ghost. CBS season 2 episode guide

Hetty Woodstone: a nineteenth-century family heiress
Period and family history
Hetty belongs to the wealthy Woodstone family and the mansion’s late-nineteenth-century history. Her identity is bound up with the family’s status and the house she once inhabited.
A later-revealed death
Later-season recaps describe Hetty’s death as suicide by telephone cord. This is a subsequent revelation, not information presented as an early-series fact. CBS’s season 1 guide confirms that her husband Elias is also a ghost and that the series explores Hetty’s memories and past. CBS season 1 episode guide
Alberta Haynes: a singer from the 1920s
Period and living legacy
Alberta was a singer whose music remains part of her story after death. The CBS episode guide ties her to her songs and to living descendants, making her history more than a murder mystery.
Murder and the investigation
The show confirms a murder-investigation arc; later summaries say Alberta was killed with poisoned liquor. The broader fact of her murder is distinct from the more specific account of how it happened. CBS’s season 2 guide covers the investigation and a visit from one of her living relatives. Flower: a 1960s counterculture life
Commune and bank robbery
Flower comes from the counterculture era. CBS’s season 1 episode guide describes her friends in a commune and a bank hold-up, grounding her backstory in specific events rather than just a 1960s label. CBS season 1 episode guide
Death on the property
Secondary summaries describe Flower’s death after she encountered a bear while high following a music festival on the property. Her death circumstances connect her counterculture past to the estate where she remains.

Period and role
Pete represents the 1980s and spent his life as a scout leader. A 2025 recap dates his death to 1985 and describes an arrow wound; those specifics come from a secondary account.
Confronting what happened
CBS’s season 2 guide confirms that a documentary about unusual deaths leads Pete to confront a hard truth about his own death. That episode-level description establishes the story’s focus without independently verifying every detail of the wound or date. CBS season 2 episode guide

Period and identity
Trevor brings the most recent era in this core roster: around 2000. His former life as a finance worker and wealthy social circle set him apart from the older residents.
The pants mystery and death
CBS’s season 1 guide covers the mystery of Trevor’s missing pants and his wealthy former friend. A later recap places his death after a party in 2000, but the CBS description is less specific about the mechanism of death. CBS season 1 episode guide
How the backstories connect
The ghosts are not simply a sequence of historical costumes. Their eras shape how they understand status, community, love, work, and the property they share. Their deaths bring those separate lives to Woodstone, while later revelations make the estate’s history feel increasingly interconnected.
The timeline is also not equally settled in every case. Episode guides are the clearest evidence for which plotlines the show covers, but short synopses often leave out the exact mechanics of a death. When a detail such as a year or method appears only in a secondary recap, it is identified that way here; Sasappis’s exact cause of death remains unstated in the cited accounts.
