Spoilers for the entire third season, including the finale. The mysterious Alice is, as far as the finale confirms, a waitress in a U.S. diner whose name tag says “Alice.” Netflix’s ending explainer reads the scene as a hint that the Borderland’s games may be heading overseas, but it does not reveal the waitress’s identity or confirm a fourth season. She is not identified as the Joker.
What happens at the end of Season 3?
In the final game, Arisu chooses to sacrifice himself so the others can leave. He breaks free, follows Usagi into the flood, and encounters Banda and the Watchman. The Watchman offers him two cards; Arisu picks the Joker. He is then asked to choose between the world of the dead and the world of the living. Arisu chooses life, and Usagi also chooses to live after seeing her father. They return to the real world.

The final scene cuts to a diner in the United States, where a waitress wears an “Alice” name tag. That is the reveal: the scene supplies her name tag and location, but no surname, backstory, or stated connection to Arisu. Netflix Tudum’s ending explanation interprets the image as a suggestion that the Borderland’s deadly games could be going overseas. It is an implication, not confirmation of a new season or of a specific international storyline.
Is Alice the Joker or the Watchman?
No. The finale does not identify the waitress as either one. The Watchman is a figure associated with the boundary between life and death; in explaining the Joker, he describes it as a card or construct rather than a person who rules the games. TIME’s interview with director and co-writer Shinsuke Sato likewise reports that the Watchman says the Joker is not a figure.

#1 Best Overall
The waitress’s name tag and the Joker reveal are separate details. Treating “Alice” as the Joker, the Watchman, or a named game-maker goes beyond what the finale establishes.
What does the Alice ending mean?
The strongest supported reading is that the diner scene opens the story world outward: after Arisu and Usagi return to life, the series offers a glimpse of a possible connection to the United States. Netflix Tudum presents it as a hint of an overseas direction, while leaving the waitress’s identity unexplained.
The season extends the live-action story beyond the manga’s main action, giving the filmmakers room to develop the Borderland premise. Netflix identifies Haro Aso’s manga as the source material, and TIME’s interview discusses the creative latitude of moving beyond its central story. That context does not make the manga a definitive answer to who this new waitress is.

Netflix Tudum’s October 3, 2025 ending explainer said there was no word yet on a fourth season. Netflix’s series materials identify the three released seasons, but do not explicitly establish whether Season 4 has since been renewed or ruled out. The Alice scene alone is not an announcement.
Sato told TIME, “There are so many directions we could have gone in Season 3, many stories we could have told.” That comment speaks to the range of creative possibilities; it does not confirm that another season is in production.
