The casting was announced in January 2026, so the choice is no longer hypothetical—and the available reporting does not substantiate a complete list of eight actresses who auditioned or screen-tested for the role.

Why isn’t there a verified list of eight actresses?
The title’s “eight actresses” framing suggests an open casting debate or a documented shortlist. That is no longer the situation: Croft has the role. The available reporting does not verify eight actresses as auditioning or screen-testing, so presenting eight names as genuine contenders would overstate what is known. Fan suggestions and speculation are not evidence that someone was considered by Disney.

- Story of Rapunzel, a girl, who after being locked in a tower by an evil witch, lets her beautiful hair grow until it was long enough to reach the ground. Soon, a prince arrives and calls to Rapunzel to let down her hair so he can climb into the tower window to rescue her.
Release and filming status
TheWrap reported that Disney showed a brief first-look tease at D23, set a theatrical release date of March 31, 2028, and had Croft and Manheim filming in Spain at the time of its August 2026 story. Those are dated production details, not a guarantee that the schedule has not since changed.

The live-action film reimagines Disney’s 2010 animated Tangled. In the original, Mandy Moore voiced Rapunzel and Zachary Levi voiced Flynn Rider. Its story follows a long-haired princess held in a tower whose life changes after she meets Flynn, as described in The Associated Press’s casting coverage.

Published worldwide-gross figures do not agree: the Associated Press reports more than $590 million, while Good Morning America cites approximately $582 million and attributes that figure to The Numbers. Without a clear reconciliation of their reporting or measurement methods, neither figure should be treated here as definitive.
