The first footage from Edgar Wright’s The Running Man was presented at Paramount’s CinemaCon event on April 3, 2025. Glen Powell, Colman Domingo, Josh Brolin and Wright appeared onstage; TheWrap’s account of the preview describes Powell’s Ben Richards caught in a future-city hunt, with armed pursuers and the cameras of a lethal reality show closing in. The footage was shown to CinemaCon attendees, and the available reports describe it rather than providing a public video of the presentation.
What the CinemaCon footage reportedly showed
According to TheWrap’s April 3, 2025 report, the preview opened in a futuristic alley. Richards was introduced as a firefighter, then drawn into the spectacle of a televised hunt. Josh Brolin and Colman Domingo’s characters set up the show and the pursuit, while Richards pushes back against being watched, saying, “Stop filming me.” The report also describes further stunts and Powell’s character taunting armed troops.
Those are scenes as recounted by a reporter who saw the preview, not a scene-by-scene account of the finished film. The CinemaCon footage was a private presentation; the reporting does not establish that the presentation itself is publicly available to watch.
Who presented the preview—and what Glen Powell said
Edgar Wright and Powell introduced the film alongside Domingo and Brolin. The Associated Press reported that The Running Man was the first title teased during Paramount’s April 3 presentation. Powell framed the theatrical experience as entertainment that could bring people with different backgrounds and views together. He also joked about the film’s demanding action work: “I’ve fallen from buildings, I’ve jumped through explosions, I’ve had my body thrashed and smashed. This is probably what I get for asking Tom Cruise advice on using a stunt double.” These were Powell’s remarks to the CinemaCon audience, distinct from Richards’s dialogue in the preview. How the footage sets up the story
The preview’s alley, cameras and armed pursuit point to the story’s central conflict: Richards is not simply trying to escape a group of pursuers, but surviving a contest designed to turn his flight into mass entertainment. Paramount’s official synopsis describes contestants hunted by professional assassins while their movements are broadcast; they must survive for 30 days. The studio’s trailer description identifies Richards as a working-class father who enters the competition as a last resort to help his sick daughter, and Brolin plays Dan Killian, the show’s ruthless producer. (Paramount Global Content; Paramount Pictures’ official trailer description)
The official setup adds context the CinemaCon preview report alone cannot establish: Richards’s desperation and the contest’s 30-day rules. The footage account offers a glimpse of how the hunt is staged on screen, but it does not prove how closely every part of the finished film follows the source novel.

From Richard Bachman’s novel to Wright’s 2025 film
The Running Man began as a 1982 novel by Stephen King, published under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. A separate film adaptation followed in 1987. TheWrap notes that the novel’s chase-thriller premise differs from that earlier film’s version; the CinemaCon preview report is not evidence for a detailed comparison between the book and Wright’s completed adaptation.
Wright directed the 2025 film and co-wrote it with Michael Bacall. Stephen King’s official filmography lists Paramount Pictures as distributor and gives the theatrical release date as November 14, 2025. Paramount lists the film’s runtime as 120 minutes. It has therefore already opened theatrically; current streaming or home-video availability is not established by the sources cited here.
