This is season 1, episode 8, “Truth Will Set You Free,” which Rotten Tomatoes lists with a U.S. air date of January 12, 2025. It is not season 2’s episode 8, which has a different title. Paramount+’s episode listing describes Martian’s approach as not going to plan; Rotten Tomatoes’ episode entry identifies the episode and date.

What happens at the end of The Agency episode 8?
Martian tells Sami the truth—and asks her to join him
Martian reveals that he is a CIA agent and tries to recruit Sami. He is attempting to replace the secrecy and deception that shaped their relationship with a direct confession. But Sami sees the request as asking her to betray her country, and she refuses. In their final airport exchange, she leaves without agreeing to help him, while Martian watches. The personal relationship is not resolved simply because he has finally told her the truth. Danny loses the academic route she was pursuing
Danny is trying to reach Iran through an academic exchange program. After one competitor is removed, her chance remains uncertain: Reza invites Rose instead. Danny is left to face the consequences of her choices and the difficulty of staying on the mission track. The episode does not show her securing a different way into Iran or completing the assignment. Martian’s disclosure changes what Sami knows, but it does not change what he is asking her to do. He wants cooperation with his work; she understands that cooperation as betrayal of her country. His honesty may remove one layer of deception, but it cannot undo the history between them or make her accept the cost of joining him. The result is a failed recruitment, not a reconciliation.
The ending also sets his established career and accumulated deception against Danny’s less settled effort to prove herself. That is an interpretation of the contrast, not a confirmed statement of the creators’ intent. What the episode makes clear is narrower: Sami leaves without agreeing to work with Martian, while Danny’s access to the Iran program remains uncertain.

Can Danny complete her Iran mission?
Episode 8 does not answer that question. It establishes that Danny wants the Iran opportunity, that Rose has been invited by Reza, and that Danny must reckon with the ethical cost of her methods and assignment. It does not establish a replacement route or confirm that Danny will complete the mission.
Seeking another opening, rebuilding Reza’s confidence, or supporting the operation through a different route are possible directions for the story, but they are speculation—not events confirmed in this episode. The factual endpoint is that Danny’s next move is left open.
