How did the competition lead to the final six?
The audition competition, The Debut: Dream Academy, was distinct from the Netflix documentary. Netflix says HYBE and Geffen received more than 120,000 submissions, selected 20 participants, and ran a 12-week program with three singing and dancing missions. The original cohort was narrowed to 10 before the final six were announced in Los Angeles.
According to the label announcement, the final lineup was determined using a combination of early votes, real-time votes during the live finale, and evaluator scores. The HYBE and Geffen announcement describes the final-member reveal and selection process.

What is the Netflix series?
Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE is a documentary series about the contestants and the behind-the-scenes formation of the group. Netflix lists season one as eight episodes and rates it TV-MA. Its official series listing describes the program as following aspiring pop stars in a K-pop training program as HYBE and Geffen create their first global girl group.
What music followed the group’s formation?
Netflix’s member guide lists “Debut” as KATSEYE’s first single, released in June 2024, and SIS (Soft Is Strong) as its first EP, released in August 2024. The EP is a related listening recommendation, not a claim that it is the documentary’s soundtrack.
