Spoilers: Dust Bunny was comedian and actor Andy Richter, unmasked on the Season 12 episode “Sports Night,” which aired October 16, 2024. Dick Van Dyke introduced the character as a Masked Ambassador, while viewer complaints about Nicole Scherzinger’s absence surrounded the episode.
Who was Dust Bunny on The Masked Singer?
Dust Bunny was Andy Richter. FOX’s official episode listing identifies the Season 12 “Sports Night” episode and confirms the reveal. Richter performed Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline”; the panel guessed Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Jay Leno before his identity was revealed.
What clues did Dick Van Dyke give about Dust Bunny?
Van Dyke, who had competed as Gnome in Season 9, returned in Season 12 as a Masked Ambassador and introduced Dust Bunny in a recorded clue segment. The name played on Van Dyke’s former costume, while the package offered career details that point toward Richter.
The spoken clues
The package described making coffee at work early in his career, then being asked to stand in for someone during a lighting test. It also named Anne Hathaway, David Bowie, and Marlon Brando as co-stars. Those details fit Richter’s career, but that connection is an interpretation of the clues—not a separate official explanation of each reference.

The costume clues
Entertainment Weekly reporting carried by AOL described a toy car, glittery ice-dancing costume material, a lollipop, an air freshener hanging from a car mirror, and popcorn among the visual clues. The report also relayed showrunner Rosie Seitchik’s description of clues appearing around the costume and changing over time. These objects add possible associations, but the available reporting does not establish an official one-to-one explanation tying each item to Richter.
The episode belongs to the show’s Season 12 approach of placing hints in songs, costumes, and stage moments. Read the clues as a collection rather than treating any single object as proof of identity.

Why was Nicole Scherzinger absent, and who took her place?
Scherzinger was not on the Season 12 panel. Rita Ora sat in her place alongside Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Robin Thicke; Nick Cannon hosted. Contemporary coverage linked Scherzinger’s absence to her stage commitment to Sunset Boulevard.
There was reported viewer criticism and online complaint about her absence, but the cited coverage does not quantify its scale or show that it represented all viewers. The episode’s documented panel lineup and the reported reason for Scherzinger’s absence are distinct from claims about how broadly audiences objected.
